i'm just confused about your sgt friends comment...can you clarify? thx

This is crazy to me, even if it is a law then what does it mater. Unlike the inside cabin of your vehicle cops cannot search the trunk of your car without probable cause. The trunk is viewed the same way as a home. As long as you don't have a body in there banging from the inside or a some drugs that a dog can smell your good to go and if you did the spare would be the least of your problems--so whats the difference...

That's why NYC will be like that move "Escape from New York". They have triple taxed everything and all the Fat Cats are leaving the city now for states without heavy taxes. And the Fat Cats pay almost all of the taxes for NYC's daily operation.

The new Camaro is in good company about deleting the hardly ever used spare tiire. I have a Porsche and an AMG SL55 (Pirelli PZeros like the Cammy) and neither have spares. I have never missed them, and (knock on wood) never needed them. The new tire technology makes spares a waste of money, space and time. I have gotten nails, but the tire pressure goes down slowly and stabilizes around 20 psi, so you notice and get it fixed but you can drive a long way with nails in it.

I ordered a 2SS with the spare tire option and the system took the order as approved. Why would it accept the order if the tire won't fit over the Brembos? Could it be a specific inside rim diameter for the SS?

The order system is a web based system that probably just doesn't account for certain things. Trust me when you get the car you wont have a spare tire.

You should however check over the final invoice and make sure you are not charge for it.

I'd bet that some of the guys who go to aftermarket 21" rims will have some 20" wheels and tires for sale on this site. He might be able to get more money in his pocket selling them individually than as a set of 4!

I have to share a story with you all. I have a 2005 Toyota sienna All wheel drive. It has runflat tires since the rear axle is in the way of a spare. My family was on a trip on interstate 5 to Oregon. At 4am we smelled burning rubber. Our front right tire had lost all air pressure. The pressure monitoring system failed to notify us of this until the tire was almost destoyed. Runflat tires are garbage and disintegrate at any speed over 55. There we were stuck in the middle of nowhere at 4am in the pitch dark with no spare tire. I called the Highway Patrol and told them what happened and their response was "What do you mean you don't have a spare"? Anyway, I had to pay $130 for a flat bed That finally showed up two hours later and another 140 for a new non runflat tire since no one seemed to carry them. The feeling of being stuck in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere with your wife and two babies is terrible. If you take long trips in your new camaro, find a way to get some kind of spare and jack to carry with you. I bought a full sized wheel and tire to carry on trips now. Toyota refused to give me one and I won't forgive them for it. I think its irresponsible of auto manufacturers to omit a safety feature like this just because it "wont fit". I say find a way to make it work or redesign the vehicle to make it work. Its no big deal to most people until it happens to them. Its funny, Toyota gave me a lug wrench and a jack but no spare. I wonder what they thought I was going to do with them.

I'm with these two guys. I've changed my share of tires, and I've plugged too. I far prefer plugging, it's often less work, less time on the side of a dangerous highway, etc.

Of course, if there's sidewall damage you're not going to get anywhere trying to plug it, and without a spare you just have to call for a tow and wait -- or get a buddy to bring a jack and lug wrench and take you (and your wheel) to the tire shop. It's probably been 5 years since I've had that happen. I can handle dealing with that problem once every 5 years...and most of the times it's happened to me have been from avoidable impacts, or once from driving on a rotted tire.

Just like with a compact spare...You don't go 150mph with repaired tires. You go at legal speeds to the tire shop and get a new tire if you're going to drive at 150mph. If you're not going to do 150, you go to the tire shop and have them add a patch to your plug to be 100% proper and legal, or you just drive on the plug forever if you're a risk taker...

The new Challenger does not come with a spare standard. You can't even select it as an option on the base, you have to go up to the '1LT' version of the challenger to get it.

I know it's not something that I'm likely to use, but I put on 30k miles a year and I don't want to be stuck somewhere without a tire. The cost of a tow truck + new tire at a shop that's open at night would easily triple the cost of a spare or buying the correct rim/tire.

I agree. I learned that lesson the hard way.

A tiny 4-6oz squirt bottle with a small amount of soap and water would probably be a good idea to to save some time on the side the road looking for those little ass holes.

(put it in a Ziploc just in case)

Maybe even some needle nose pliers to help pullout the nail.
