Wow...that looks awesome! I definitely don't mind and I really appreciate it.
Would you be interested in working on some better resolution photos for me?

I apologize to the OP for the thread jack. And to get back on topic...picture #2 had the most potential...if you cropped it a bit. Only you broke car photo RULE #1: ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR WHEELS ARE STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU GET OUT TO TAKE PICTURES.

THAT is the very best advice I can give you!

Depth of field and focus. Impression. Clarity. Emphasis. Perspective. Story. Etc. Etc.. though the most important is, what you want from your photo. The crutch of digital photography is just that. It is digital. Programs nowadays make it so easy to go overboard in the digital darkroom. However, if that's the look your going for then more power to you! My favorite photos are the ones that I think look as close to what I saw through the viewfinder.

No photoshop, just tweaked some colors and levels in Lightroom to match the scene that I closed the shutter on.

My best tip: NEVER shoot in direct sunlight! Overcast days are the bet in my opinion!

Here are some tips that I've picked up along the way:

1. If you're shooting with a DSLR, take it OFF of automatic mode and into manual, aperture, or shutter priority mode.

2. Go into your camera's settings and adjust the saturation levels. On my D3100 I can only do this if it's in manual, aperture, or shutter priority mode. I kicked my saturation level up 3 ticks. This brings out much brighter colors that "pop".

3. As said above, lighting and composition are everything. Don't shoot into direct sunlight UNLESS the sun is your subject. Composition is important because you want to frame your subject so that it is even and centered. You can crop after, but it is best to try to frame your subject properly when you are shooting. This will minimize post editing.

4. The best light to shoot in is either from sunrise to 1 1/2 hours after, OR, 1 1/2 hours prior to and up to sunset.

5. Pay close attention to what is in the background of your subject. You want to make it interesting, but not distracting. Don't make it too busy, but enough to make an interesting photograph.

6. Lines: I'm a big fan of symmetry. I really like clean lines and angles. Try to frame your subject with symmetry in mind.

7. Don't go overboard with effects.

*disclaimer* I am just an amateur photographer. I think I have a good eye for composition, but I am still learning the technical aspects of photography.

I always take mine to Photoshop with Topaz adjust 5. I wish I had the time to figure out how to take good pics myself.

Thanks for the pics BTW

While I'm sure this is all great advice...I'm an amateur and all of my pictures were taken with a $100 Nikon L18 point and shoot. I recently purchased a Nikon D3100...but I still get my best pictures from the L18 that I keep in the glove box.

It isn't necessary to have an expensive camera or to use unfamiliar camera settings to achieve great photos. It just takes practice and in doing so...you'll learn your cars best angles.
