totaly guessing: It could be cooling vents for the Nav??? Any one know what purpose it serves on the CTS?

Maybe these pics will explain it better, the area circled in red in the Camaro looks like the top of this NAV unit.

Certainly looking back at the Camaro dash pics, the shapes look similar, the location looks similar, by gosh I think it is a pop up NAV unit. TAG, I think you're in luck!!

MMM...well. Looking at the Caddy pix, that pop up is higher on the dash and at an angle. The screen on the Camaro looks like it's fixed in place....on the lower part of the dash by the radio. However, I don't know what that thing is up on the dash. Mmmmm I dunno. Pop up would be awesome. It's already been designed and paid for. Money wouldn't have to go into R&D to develop any further programs or anything.

Not really, if it is down in your car you need to take your eyes completely off the road to look at it. Up on the top you will still be able to keep the road in the corner of your eye. Of course, if that isn't the nav then all of this becomes pointless

I'm pretty sure it's just storage. A place to put the 'bag' for your passenger.

what about a tray for bluetooth devices such as cell phone and Ipod ?
they could link up with the radio !! That would be cool, the lid will keep your items secure and out of the sun light.

Wow, I love that Nav design. That is the best implementation of a built-in Nav system that I've ever seen.

I'm not going to get my hopes up that that's what it is, so I also really like the idea of having a closing tray for bluetooth devices and whatnot.

I actually think that thing in the center of the dash is a speaker.

What, center speaker for the home theater system that's going into new Camaros? I don't think so. I can't imagine that GM would have a center mounted speaker in any vehicle in this day and time, even my GM trucks have stereo speakers. I have not seen a center speaker in a vehicle for a long, long time.

No NO, he's right, I have seen this on some BMWs they have 5 channel stereo systems, it balances the sound for the passanger and the driver to equal out the sound. I adds depth to the sound.
Good one, I like that.

Alpine has one here (Click)

The more I think about it, it can't be pop up nav. If it were, it would sit too high on the dash and become a hazard as it would be in the drivers line of sight. If they wanted to put in pop up nav, it would have to be more like the pic of the caddy and situate it lower than right on the top of the dash.

Center speaker? I don't think so....adds weight. That's exactly what GM is trying to stay away from. Nope. I'm bettin' it's still your regular old vent.
