No sorry, its a waste. The neighbor could of walked over and respectfully asked him to keep it down. Cops have better things to do than respond to bogus calls like this. Unfortunately, most people these days can't deal with problems on their own so they call for mommy every time someone hurts their feelings. I think it stems from the whole every one should win a trophy and life should be fair liberal BS. Trust me I know, I live in "Commi-fornia", if i fart ill break a smog law and noise ordinance. Then some anti-fart group will campaign to make new laws saying people who fart should be jailed and ticketed because it will hurt someones nose. Cops will be chasing "someone farted" calls all day and not dealing with real problems. If you don't believe me google "California prison over crowding". Like i said, its a waste.

You're taking it to the extreme... Perhaps the neighbor did go over a previous time and respectfully express his right to not be assaulted by the noise... Remember the context of the situation.. as stated earlier in this thread, chances are this is not the first time thus resulting in the police getting involved...

I agree with you.. Sirius is a good poster, but I know damn well he just got that cam in his dads car and don't tell me this is the first time he got a lil toasty with it. I don't blame him..

As you said.. That cop is not wasting his time if he slots his calls in order of priority and SOMEONE's peace was breached.. however, kind sir, you are wasting your time trying to explain it here.

I am just honestly shocked that some people are cool with pissing off their neighbors. No one seems to realize THOSE are the people that see your house and those are the people that are your eyes when you are away from the house... or God forbid, the people now wanting to damage your property.

Ahhh, the ever popular noise complaints..... These are sooo much fun while on duty.

I think the apartment complexes drive me crazy the most. God forbid a new game comes out on one of the video game units like Madden 12. I must have handled 3 calls for guys who got together to play the game in an apartment.
"The kids upstairs are running around like crazy" is another popular one (no matter what time of day or night). Sorry but thats a management problem not for calling 911.
Hell, we even got a call the other morning at 0600 because one of the churches set there bells off. Did I tell you that the person who called lives 100 yards from the active railroad tracks.

I always push people towards interacting with their neighbors before calling the police about noise issues... just like Brantely said, these are the people you have to live with, who you may count on in times of need, or watch your place while you are gone on vacation/work.
As far as loud car sounds after a certain time.... a little ridiculous to call the police if its just starting it up, now if there are numerous revs etc... ya gotta have a little common courtesy if you have neighbors in close proximity. I always try to be as quiet as possible when coming home @ 3 am from shift, but then again I care about the people that live around me. We are all friends and look out for each other.

Can't we all just get along?

Last time I had this problem was within a week of my wife and I buying our first house, I had a loud car (9 sec 57 chev) and the old man with no life one street over came to tell me he was starting a petition to get us thrown from the neighborhood. I told him to wait one second as I turned in the garage to fetch a pen, I grabbed his notebook and signed at the top of the page, "there Im your first signature" I said. Then I crawled over the rollbar in my 57 chevy backed it out into the street (3" flowmaster mufflers) did about a 100' burnout with 33x16-15 M&H DOTs. When I circled the block he was making his way back to his house, I stopped and said "keep it up and I will do it every night at midnight". Never another peep out of that old pr*k.

Nothing like having a new neighbor move in and finding out he has a raging antisocial personality disorder.

If the neighbor is too stupid or doesn't have the common sense to realize what they are doing, I doubt they are going to react well to what you suggest. You are judging a situation without information. Perhaps the neighbors are old and frail, perhaps they are scared or intimidated? The real point is that IT DOESN'T MATTER. That's a defense mechanism, trying to project or deflect. Really? You're just going to do something you know is offensive and only back down when someone "complains" to you?

What do I get tired of? People with no respect that get all butt-hurt when someone calls them on it, and in this case, they were called on it. You shouldn't act all surprised and offended when you don't have respect for other people and "out of the blue" someone doesn't have respect for you. Usually these are the types of people that can't see the forest for the trees. They can't see outside their little bubble and comprehend how their actions affect other people. If they could, the situation probably wouldn't happen in the first place.

I have always been very tolerant of noise. A loud car reving pisses me off but I just let it go. If they are sitting there for 10 minutes or so and NOT working on the car I'll go over and tell them nicely that it's a bit much. Espec. if it's late. But noise doesn't bother me.

However, I understand that it does bother some people. Not WHY but THAT it does. So I give courtesy accordingly.

GTAHVIT would push his car into his garage at night sometimes if it were late. I laughed at him and called him a sissy until I deleted my cats, put the long tubes and Borla on and cammed my car. I called him and said "Hey, guess what? I just pushed my car in the garage." When it's late and you got home earlier but didn't park in the garage it's no big deal to just push it in.

Pet peave of mine is when neighbors call cops or county to complain and all they had to do was COME TALK TO ME. However I realize in this situation it's possible that already happened prior.

But there ARE overbearing and shitty neighbors that want to 'run' the neighborhood like an old folks home. Fortunately my county has Friday Saturday night laws.

If it was a trip around the block with no loud revving I don't see a problem. But 11:00 pm is not considered too late to me for a quick start-up and exit the neighborhood.

It seems to me that there are a lot of hypocrites in this thread... I am sure you wouldn't be angry if your neighbor affected your sleep, right?

1. It probably wasn't the first time for a late night sound exhibition. People rarely call the police due to one event. It generally takes a few times to piss off a neighbor before they make a phonecall (not a rule, just an observation on human behavior and this could be an exception to my view point.)

2. Alcohol was probably being consumed prior to starting the engine, given the time of night. Probably not in excess, because the cops showed up and are trained to notice excessive inebriation, but enough for dad to show his friends how bad ass his car is. Again, just a theory but unless you already hate your neighbors, the reasons to start your loud car just before midnight can be ascertained by the elements of this story.

I also have a very loud car and my closest neighbor's house gets the obnoxious start up and idle directly behind their house roughly 30 yards away. During the mornings and night, I make my best effort to keep the noise levels down because I enjoy not being the a$$-hole neighbor with the loud car.
The alchohol is kind of an assumption. It was Thursday night.

Agreed, if we assume that. But if this were the first time then he should have either walked over and said something or came over the next day. 99% of everybody would be appoloagetic and cease.
