won't tightening/loosening the lugs take off the paint?

Yes. Plasti-dipping the lug nuts is pointless because tightening them will rip it off.

Surprisingly I did my lug nuts and was able to tighten them down without messing up the plastidip...if I wasn't a retard I would post pictures of my car/wheels showing the lug nuts. I used a 6 point socket and a little patience...it worked for me.

For the best results try spraying 6 inches away keeping the can vertical. Do thin coats and wait about 5 min in between coats. Try and make the last coat heavy then let dry for a few hours before mounting. If you let the plastidip dry before adding another coat. Plastidip also works great as a basecoat. This will alow to paint any color other then just satin black.

Very cool idea of using plastidip as a base coat. I doubt I would ever have thought of it.

There is crome paint in a can. Alsa makes it. They also have candies and pearls in a can. Theyre called killer cans. The stuff looks like it works amazing but its about $40 a can which is pretty steep.

I did 4 sets of wheels outdoors with no issues. Sometimes you'll see little imperfections toward the inner part of the wheel, but its plastidip, its not perfect But from 3 feet away at least they'll look awesome. Just go for it! hahaha
