Nah.. It's not that hard to make it work. You'd just have to modify the vararam box. I'll do it when I get my Mace Insulator in the mail.

if so, how much power/tq do you think would be gained by doing this? worth doing, or just leaving the insulator alone?
What ported IM are you waiting for? If you are talking about tracy's then I don't think you have to worry about matching anything. I believe he already said that it won't be gasket matched and the ports will not be widened for the reasons of not wanting to disrupt velocity on our SIDI engine.

good point.

how much extra HP do you think that is leaving on the table though without porting the runners? i can see it being an easier mod for guys who don't do any head work, a nice simple bolt on. but with head work and port matching...an extra 10-20hp could be expected? ...

Got the install done! Went really well. Made a little extension so I could still attach at the throttle body that was easy.

Also made two extensions for the back horizontal bolts that were going to drop right down and work great- except I don't have hands the size of a young oriental woman, so that's going to wait for a visit from my daughter in-law! I bet she can do it!

Had to take it for a shake down cruise of course. Started fine but got an immediate CEL , thought it might clear on its own (running fine), so went ahead and drove. Kept it short and easy but didn't go away.

Reader showed P0041- swapped O2 sensors both banks, sensor 2 or some shite. I cleared it. Prolly my fault for not disconnecting the battery. Hoping thats the last I see it.
Will have a chance to see a little more of what she'll do tomorrow.

Oh yeah, after I got back and let her cool down I re-checked the IM bolt torque and found they needed another 1/4 to 1/2 turn, for future reference.

Maybe this is something Trifecta can chime in on. What would cause that CEL to come on?

So how was it Ventmaster? Any improvements?

I really don't think (O.K.- hoping) the CEL was anymore than computer confusion. I knew I should disconnect the battery- but was lazy and talked myself out of it. The code probably would have cleared on its own given time.
And for tonight , all I did was bring it up to operating temp and shut'er down. Didn't wind it up any- just giving the ECM a drive cycle or two to get familiar with any new parameters.

And I've never had a Vararam, but my only concern when it was time to close the hood was if I had enuff clearance for my Airaid intake tube-it was sitting up pretty high to meet the new throttle body location.

Traditionally, when porting we want to push in more volume of air and at the same time don't disrupt the velocity. Usually ported IM's alone for a vehicle that can take advantage are worth about 10-15hp on avg and a little more with tuning from what I been seeing in the past. Not sure how my ported IM and tracy's will differ, but as you know the last time I dynoed I had gained 20ft lb of tq and 18hp with 18mm insulator. What really surprise me is that the gain was before we filled the neck on the manifold, screwed up AFR, and timing pulled 11*-12* pass 4500rpm! We know the 25mm insulator is worth about 10-14ft lb of tq and a little less hp. Also keep in mind, my intake manifold is a stg-3 full blown. It's very interesting indeed. I can't wait for the dyno next week with vince with everything running good

Quick update: CEL is gone. Car running smooth (smoother maybe). Definitely more beans above 3K, but I'm still trying to be good a little longer- at least til I get off work today!

I would def reset the ecm and give about 30 easy miles before letting her open. It should take about a total of 100 miles before you really start noticing.
