I only make 352 rwhp (no weight removed from the car - except 20" Nurburgring wheels and the weight reduction from exhaust mods) and my car runs 12.1 in the 1/4 mile. I know of many "dyno queens" that make big HP numbers and they run like crap at the track. Dyno numbers mean nothing to me without track times to back them up. |

I.. along with most of us here, do it because it is fun. It is a passion to tinker with and put my head under these cars. I try to do any install I can that doesn't require a vehicle lift on all 4 corners. Any intelligent human being knows there is always a faster car out there.. Camaro or not. I do what will throw me in the back of my seat and what is FUN to drive. That is why I will build a foundation with suspension upgrades to couple with power. Slicks aren't ideal for someone no where near a track so we can save the "how well can you launch of the line". How is bragging about 60 times any different than the guy who says I have 500horses to the wheels? It is not. It still cost you money to get there. I don't peel off 100 mph runs on the highway, but hugging the road and having the power there IF I need it, is fun. Track time doesn't make my car better or worse than yours. More HP doesn't matter to anyone outside my own world. We have goals because HP is a translation that we can witness unfolding with vehicle performance improvement ..if it means something as simple as being thrown back into the seat of your car. We are all lying to each other if we had 20k to throw away, that we wouldn't throw a vast amount of that into these cars. If it makes one owner happy to do it and set a call of 500 rwhp for example.. more power to him. I don't see why it bothers anyone.. In fact, I enjoy watching other people document their progress and seeing the outcome.

^^^^ What he said!
Hey man, took the last choice because I have a 2LT and it's my daily driver. I'm not looking to race and don't think I ever will, but I am into just looks right now anyway.

As long as peoples understand the proper usage of a dyno it should be all good. In the world of modding, a dyno is a very important tool and it serve it's purpose very well. Peoples just don't need to get confused to using a dyno to measure their overall power figure.

I think alot of people just want to be able to say my car makes this much hp to inflate their ego but whats the point of building a high hp if you arent going to use it? I think it comes down to each individual and whatever their motives are is their perogative. I have put a stupid amount of money into my car and have big hp numbers but I am 100% about using every ounce of the power and every other performance mod I have done. I can only use this power at the track but I can still daily drive my car and have too. I could care less comparing dyno graphs as I will let my car speak at the track against any dyno numbers. There are alot of people on here building extreme hp cars that they say are going to be used as road course cars but I just dont get it because you cant use that kind of power on a road course effectively. Look at the fastest cars in the world who road race and what kind of power they put down and that is because they focus on suspension and handling and build power that they can use. Then there are people who build the high hp cars that are mainly street cars and see a track every once and awhile and that is fine as its always fun to burn the tires off of a car ont he street too. I can say that if you are building a setup to go fast in these cars, its very expensive as making a 4200# car go fast is no easy task. This is just my .02

yup.... besides, it makes peoples jaw drop when you tell them you have over 600rwhp... Tell them you ran an 11.2 and they dont understand that as much as the RWHP. Hell, my Harley will go 12.0 in the quarter mile, big deal..
I guess I am the enemy because I look for HP not really time. HP should equal to lower times, but so many variables to content with..

Let's have some fun. It's alot harder to get 600 plus hp down the track than a 400ish. Not knocking anybody. If u r perfect good for u I'm not. Dyno is a number some post and i do. I'f u want 2 bitch why do the NHRA guys go up in smoke? I't happens. U have to get the right setup to get great times with high hp. LOVE U CAMARO 5 PEEPS!

Speaking for myself only, the dyno is a much more accurate measure of gain from a particular mod. The standard deviation in HP/TQ from three consecutive dyno pulls would be far less than the SD in seconds from three (of my) 1/4 mile times.
Plus, there is far less risk of breaking something on a dyno.

The fact of the matter is most people (including myself) who mod their vehicles (even for the track), won't use half of the available performance abilities because they're all amateur race drivers doing it for entertainment value not for salaries. In my case I could have built a 427ci. NA, or for FI (no real substantial cost savings either way), so why not do it for FI, and throw on my already purchased blower. Not my fault it made 1100hp. that I can't use most of the time.

![]() Tracks fun and all but gets boring real quick. 11.56 11.55 11.58 11.54 Wonder what I'm going to run next run! Track = way too much to do with factors you don't control (ie track prep). On the street you run what you brung. You have an equal chance as the other guy. Don't see many guys roll up in the street with big ass DRs wanting to run from 0 to their top of 3rd. All out. Shows true performance of a car. |
