Well I'm an idiot.
I've got some miles on the 25mm insulator and wanted to datalog just to be sure everything's optimal. I'd used my daughter's laptop last year and had the software/drivers already loaded on it. Borrowed it yesterday and made sure it got charged overnight. Drove a bit out to my secret high desert testing grounds, til everything was up to temp, before I turned it on- and then I couldn't find the dang program anywhere!! I was getting pretty peeved at all the junk on there- and I hate laptops anyway- when I finally found it. Opened it up and it prompted me if I wanted to load the tune. Was trying to decline and go back to menu when I guess I clipped the ACCEPT button and off she went- reloading. ![]() No stopping now! Guess I'll try again in a couple hundred miles- sorry boys, I was trying to get some useful info for us all. Maybe next time... |

I was able to find a very nice small netbook on craigslist for 100 bucks that I can use strictly for my car needs. It's an asus 1005hab with 1gb ram, 160gb, and 1.66 intel's atom running on xp. I recently upgraded to 2gb ram and I can do all of my photoshop tasks and other photo related tasks without too much lag. You can find some nice deals on craigslist. You will git r done

Yep totally understand, reformat the family computer once a year for that reason, too much crap. No one touches mine. Either way look forward to the info when you get it.

I've been watching this thread, and this may be my next mod. I would also like to install my engine cover if possible. Has anyone tried to lay the engine cover on top of the intake with the 25mm spacer installed? If the cover is clear of the hood insulation, I may have found a solution to the oil filler tube height. This spacer is an oil filler tube from a G8 with a 3.6, it measures 25mm. It fits right into our LLT oil filler, and just screw your existing oil cap or breather on.

So I've been pondering these smaller mods, the insulator and ported TB. Are they really the bang for buck that everyone seems to be saying? Will my butt dyno be convinced?

yes and yes.
really, it depends on how in tune you are with your car. do you just drive it or do you "drive" it? im sure you've noticed the sluggishness in the lower RPM and the TB eliminates it. the Insulator...will amaze you at how much of an improvement it makes. seems like something simple, but you'll be happy with your purchase. easily the best bang for the buck mods.

I got my eng.cover out of mothballs and checked- in the back, the cover is that form fitting black felt (thin) cardboard stuff. You'd have to cut the back 1/4 of this off now that the IM is raised- the part of the cover that you normally can't see, but if you do a good job no one would even notice. Its held in place by 2 trim retaining pins (the push/pull kind) on the top of the IM. The back of the primary eng.cover has 2 hooks that slide under the black felt, and then attaches to the pin and under the oil fill cap in front. Now the front will likely sit up a bit higher when attached as planned, but I just laid my cover on top of the raised IM and closed the hood without difficulty.
