Daily Driving...
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and by the end of the summer I will be looking into finally getting my next car. Here's the deal, I plan on using my next car, hopefully Camaro, for daily driving; my drive is about 15 miles from my house on an expressway, so fuel is not my issue, but I'm more concerned about comfort. I recently went to the Motor Trend show and sat in the SS, the 5.0 and the r/t challenger, and I gotta say at first i felt very cramped in the SS. Once I put the seat all the way down and pushed it back, it was better. I'm about 5'9" so i'm not a tall guy, so the ss might even be better for me.
The question is, how many of you daily drive your camaros and how comfortable is it? Do you have any regrets about daily driving it? Would you still drive it in the snow, and if you do i'm sure you bought all weather purpose tires. The truth is I was so disappointed when I got I sat in the Camaro, but I can't get it out of my mind. I love the car. I have since it came out and I always get excited when I see one. But I also need something that is reliable on a daily basis. Let me know. Thanks for the help.

I'm 6'3" 230lbs and I drive my 1SS an avg of 50 miles per day. Its the most comfortable vehicle that I've ever owned. You have to get the seats and mirrors adjusted properly, then take a day and drive the hell out of it.
Bet you will love it ;-)

I'm 5'8" 190lbs and drive my 2LT about 15 miles to and from work. I just had my hip replaced a few months ago so it's still a little tender while driving, but on the whole, I'm very comfortable. The only problem I have is my wife resets the seat when she drives it. There's not a memory seat function so this can be quite annoying when she moves the seat all the way forward and then I get it and bang my knees.

I use mine as a daily driver. 70 miles round trip weekdays. I have the pirelli scorpions on stock rims for the winter (They are on now) and no complaints. I didn't buy mine to sit in the driveway...it has seen snow, rain, sun...you name it.
I felt comfortable at 5'10 240 and since then am down to 220. Seats are comfy...drive is nice.

I use my SS as a daily driver. I am 6ft 185lbs. Just adjust the seat a little and it is very comfy.....so long as you are in the front seat. The back seat is a joke. The front seats I have to agree are more comforatable than most other cars I have driven. You kind of feel boxed in due to the hight doors and dash and small windows, but drive it for 2 weeks and you will be perfectly used to it. I have winter tires. It does great in ice/cold/snow so long as it isn't too deep. If you buy a car like this enjoy it....I don't see why people make it a garage queen. Life is short....what are you saving it for? If it gets old.....buy a new car down the road!

I'm 6'3" 190 drive 52 miles a day. I had the same impression when I first sat in a Camaro. I then took one out on a test drive and spent a good deal of time adjusting the seat etc. I've had mine for over 3 months now and do not have a single issue with comfort.

I'm 6'5" and 260 and I ABSOLUTELY love this car and how I feel when sitting in it. I drive it daily in non-winter months (I'm in WI) 60mi round trip for work not including after hour cruises or trips to friends on a daily basis etc... I think the main thing is to just be able to drive it for a day and get the feel for it. Have your seat and mirrors adjusted to find that right setting, that is the case for all new cars people sit in and it just takes a little driving time to get everything right. If you can't get this car out of you mind with the other choices you are thinking of, I think you just need to go for it and you will become very comfortable on the inside. At least go and test drive one where you can be out in it for a bit and adjust the seats and mirrors and see if you can find your sweet spot. However you decide, good luck with getting your next car

I'm 6'3" and 250+ and I currently drive about 350 miles a week in comfort. I am more torso than legs, so I am closer to the roof than I like, but overall pleased so far.

You may want to consider skipping the sunroof as the roof without it goves you a bit more headroom. Otherwise it is a very confortable ride & boy does it make the commute more fun!!!!!!!!

I purchased mine to use as a DD.. But have since passed on the idea..
My reasoning however is petty.. My golf clubs were a PITA to get in & out of the trunk.. Then I chaged jobs & the place I had to park was by RR tracks & all gravel so my car would get trashed.. Now with another job again (wow that sounds bad!) & I bought a 1990 K1500 4x4 stepside from my boss with only 65k miles which is used on the job & for advertising (trust me, he asked & I said no way to putting company logos on the C!!) I actually get more enjoyment now just driving it 1-2x per month.. But to OP I drove mine for 8k miles or so as DD & I actually didn't care for it.. Not that it wasn't capable.. just wasn't my thing.. |

Put my 6' 2'' ~220-240 lb buddy in it this weekend and he said it was incredibly comfortable. I personally agree, coming from a '95 z71, this thing is like driving a bed. A bunch of my friends have new cars, and other than one Nissan Altima, mine is the most comfortable

Mine is my DD. I have a manual with a short throw and loud exhaust. I put about 15,000 miles a year on it. My commute is around 10 miles one way and parts of it can be stop and go traffic. No issues or problems with it. The wife complains on 4+ hour trips, but it's no big deal to me. 6'0 180# by the way.
If I was older or had mobility problems it may be an issue. Getting in or out for a few days after a really heavy leg workout can by problematic since it's so low. My only complaint is the wear and tear. The windshield is showing signs of abrasion, there are numerous chips in my paint, and it's always dirty. As far as space, the trunk is pretty big, but the opening is oddly shaped. The other day I had two sets of golf clubs, my wife's shopping bags, and a week's worth of groceries in the trunk. The only problem was getting stuff in and out.

I have been on Road Trips all over the country 20+ hr drives and in most cars i have a problem with my A$$ going numb but I have never had any problems in my SS. Even after 16hrs of strait driveing. Its worthy of a DD!

I'm 6'2", 260lbs and have put just under 16k miles on my car driving it daily the last 2 years. It's not as comfortable as I would have liked, coming from an 04 GTO which was extremely comfortable. I also test drove a Challenger SRT8, which I personally believe was more comfortable than the Camaro, but drove like a wet noodle. I keep driving it because I have to, not because I want to.
