After half of a decade of development, I'd expect better from Chevrolet. I guess you could say this car isn't all its cracked up to be?

I see a lot of talk about the wind "pushing up" on the fascia... but what about the other end of this? What if the wind is pushing the bottom part inward? This would cause the same cracks, and might even be a little more realistic, since the SS fascia is kind of squared off. I'd think that the bottom part is "pushing" the air too much, instead of aerodynamically breaking the wind to the side. You know?

Did anyone think the first run out of the blocks would be perfect?

Come on. How many posts of this problem have you heard of? This is the first.

I go back to my original theory: An isolated case.

Does anyone have any additional data to say otherwise?

This doesn't change my mind. I moved up two slots on my dealer's list and I'm still very much excited.

To each his own.

Maybe the front license plate added too much wind resistance and caused the cracking

Well, it's a glaring exterior issue that could be seen by everyone. The battery issue, while serious in it's own right didn't effect much else and was a potential one time fix.

This one..could be something that rears it's ugly head over and over due to the nature of the design if the theories are correct. In a sense, it's much worse.

I'm starting to think that they may as well redesign the nose in '11 to extend the hood to prevent this from happening.. I mean that fascia is really just a big plastic ring bent into a rectangle. Hollow and made of plastic, it didn't hit me at first but I can now actually see this happening due to the nature of the beast. Anyone want a functional SS scoop...well here may be a legit reason to put it on.

Absolutely! Couldn't agree with you more.

This tells me that cracking can begin almost immediately once the total wind force on the facia (vehicle speed + head wind) gets anywhere over say 100 mph, and certainly well below 155mph. I would think that one long distance trip at highway speed, into a decent head wind, could cause this type of failure. certainly over time, with vibration and repeated use, there is a substantial risk of this type of failure even under normal use.

These cracks are telling us that this is a weak point, prone to failure, immediately at high speed, or over time, under normal use.

Wind testing alone may not have revealed the problem. It could easily be a combination of wind speed and vehicle vibration that you don't get in a wind tunnel. GM needs to look into it, discover the cause and come up with a fix.

And don't tell me its no big deal because it will be covered under warranty. That's crap. Who wants to have to take their car into the shop, have a new faica put on, new paint applied, maybe it matches, maybe it doesn't? Who wants that hassle.

That's like discovering that the engine will blow up after 10,000 miles. But don't worry about it, we'll fix it under warranty. Yeah right. Happy day.

If its a problem, fix it now.
I haven't been worried about any previous aspects of the car not being up to par with the competition, but this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. We haven't had very many serious issues that would have made the car seem inferior. This is one of those issues. I'm hoping that a solution becomes available very quickly.

GM's been running these cars for thousands of miles at highway speeds, even if this were not an isolated problem, which I suspect it is, it wouldn't happen unless you were trying to top out the car.
And for those of you that say you're going to go 150 miles an hour on public roads, then the front clip would definitely crack anyway, since you're going to crash eventually and probably kill someone.

How fast did Jimmie take this Camaro around the track? I wonder if this one cracked?
