That pause you hear after each gear is the torque management, the throttle never lifted on my end. Had I shifted any slower, you would hear it hit the rev limiter.

Again, anyone in the Texas area who wants to come run their own Camaro on the same track, same day, I can arrange this. FREE. Lets see if any keyboard racers can click off the 12.99 that they think they can nail.

But, you have to agree to post your 13.9s and 14.1s should you happen to run those too...

If you can do this for free .. get that car back and run it fresh ...

For what its worth, I hot-lapped my bone stock 2009 Z06 at the same track. I knocked off a tenth after each consecutive pass, as I learned the car. First pass was 11.9 with hop, and I eventually ran an 11.55 @ 125. The beauty of having a track all to yourself is that you can do 60 mph on the return road and cool the radiator pretty well. By the time it gets back to the staging lanes, the car is just at normal operating temps, not overheated. The Z06 would finish a pass at around 220F temps, and be back to 185F after I made it back to the line.

I feel the car has another 0.15 in it just from allowing it to cool completely off. But, would you have preferred to get 2 passes in at 30 min apart, or get 15 passes in? Had this been a car I was familiar with and driven 100 times, then sure I'd wait around to make a 1-pass-wonder attempt. In reality, these are the times that will be normal to most drivers. Watch and see.

I'll probably do that with my own car, when it arrives. The offer is still open for anyone wanting to make a trip down. The track is halfway between Houston and San Antonio (Sealy, TX). Austin is also not far away. That gives us three large cities of potential Camaro owners. Hopefully nobody is scared to come drag race their car, for the sake of scientific knowledge.

So far, I've not been contacted by anyone interested in racing. Come on!

Trust me, if I was getting my Camaro anytime soon, I would be right there with you. Unless somebody wants to let me borrow theirs?

I would also be more than happy to post my first few runs that wouldnt exceed a 13.7 lol. New animal, gotta get used to it.

The 2010 Camaro is easily a low 13 car in better conditions. Probably could have gone a tenth and a half quicker if the engine was cooled to ambient. Unfortunately, the time schedule didn't allow for cool down. I wanted more seat time with the car to learn its launch quirks and shift points. I don't see 12s happening on 20" OEM tires until we get some -1500 DA conditions, on a hooking track. The automatics should run bottom 13s no problem though, as they do not shock the tires on the launch.

Tony
exactly, the auto should be easier to launch.

I used to race a 2002 Z28, that I made tons of passess in. Me and my father have spiral notebook after notebook full of data and info from all our racing.

Back when I got mine in Aug of 02 the car would only run 13.80's at 104, once the weather was good, the car would run 13.40's at 108 all day long. DR's intake and a cut out and the car ran 12.80's at 111mph, and it was an auto. I cannot to wait and see how fast these cars are a year from now.

Look at it this way, you have a new, heavier, safer car that right now is just as fast as the previous one. Making the horsepower it does is a technological marvel. Long live muscle cars and the horsepower war!

Tony, I'm not a net racer, and my 99Z, leather t-tops, auto, 3:23s, street tires,.. is still all stock (except for a GMMG cat back) and has 192,000 miles on it now.

I used to race it out at Sealy (when it was still 1/8 mile) and I almost always got 8.7-8.8@80-81 mph. I think that comes out to about 13.8 @102 or so in the 1/4.
I would be more than happy to bring the 99Z out for a run or two (mostly for me to see how much, if any, it has lost due to age and mileage.
I think the 13.5s y'all got is a fair time for the conditions.

Let me know if you want me to come out. I'd love to see and hear the new Camaro!!
I work in west Houston , (beltway and I-10) live in Wharton (US59 south halfway to Victoria) so Sealy isn't too far out of my way.

I'm in the 99Z today! (granted, it's about time for new tires again!)

LOL I'm not going digging for 6 year old threads. But I personally witnessed consistent 13.6-13.7 from one example at T&T night back when the cars were brand new. This was on a cool, dry autumn night at a fast track about 900 feet above sea level. My lid-only LS1 was running 13.1-13.2 that night if that is any indication. I didn't draw conclusions from one car on one night, and neither should you. The point is that the times got significantly better once the owners became accustomed to them, and if you yourself were "keeping up" you would realize this too. GM's cars have been running "better than advertised" for years and it's going to take more than one bad example for me to believe they have thumbed the scales to this extent.

EDIT We've now got a dyno sheet of a reportedly stock SS putting down 384rwhp in the engine section. Too early to tell if this will be typical, but if it is we'll be seeing times a lot better than 13.6 in short order.

Agreed. I'm going to be honest and say I'm extremely surprised to see this coming from a guy owning an R/T. It seems almost every R/T owner swears by the dyno as it must be correct if it says their car is underrated (but wrong if it doesn't).

Hell, post up on the Austin Fbody forums and I'm sure you'll get a wide range of willing participints. I'd bring mine but I'm too much of a puss worrying about breaking my 10 bolt.

Mid 13s in the 1/4? Not much faster than my stock '09 WRX, although the Camaro's trap speed is significantly higher.
