Nitto tires would be my choice. They have the Invo's and the 420's. Depends on if you want an all season, the 420's, or a performance tire, the Invos. For me Id go with the 420's. Give up a little in performance, but the overall treadwear is great.


Edit: looks like the 420's have removed some of their sizes, so the Yoko Prada's will be your best bet if you want an all season.

Before changing tire brands, we might want to make sure it doesn't void any warrenty on the car. I'm just saying this because of that little fine print that states... GM approved tires only! I'm sure GM will put out a list of tire brands recommended for the Camaro. Just a thought!

As for the speed rating, Spec-X is V-rated (149mph), P-Zero is Y-rated (186mph). Top speed in the SS is governed to 155mph and as we saw this weekend in another thread, you may have other issues at that speed too.

All I'm saying is that specs are specs and you should buy what you feel comfortable buying when it comes to tires. If you are going to be doing top speed runs, then spend the extra money for the Pirellis because your life will depend on it. If you are like 80%+ of the typical Camaro drivers out there, you'll never go over 100mph, let alone 149mph so you can probably get by with the Spec-X tires and have an extra $1k in your pocket (Spec-X set price=$558, P-Zero set price=$1610) plus nearly twice the treadwear rating of the P-Zero (Spec-X: 420A A, P-Zero: 220AA A).

Also, really guys.....how many of us consistently exceed the national speed limit? If I do it isn't for sustained periods of time and generally not more than 80 MPH. If you are buying the car for the track thats one thing but if its a daily driver how often can you go 150 MPH through town?

Actually, I've been into classic cars for the better part of 2 decades and I've learned a lot along the way, including information like that about tires. You can either let other people tell you what they think or go educate yourself on a topic. I tend to prefer to educate myself so I can at least carry on an intelligent conversation, when needed.

Are you saying the fine print is there, or asking if it is?

If anyone took that to court it would never hold water. There's no reason that tires of the correct size can affect warranty. They only interface with the wheel.

It would be a sad day when having the wrong tires affects someone's warranty!!

Anyway, they can't "void your warranty". They can deny a specific claim, if they can reasonably say that your modification caused it. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects the consumer quite well. Of course, if a dealer wants to deny a claim, they will and it becomes a big hassle (at least) for the consumer who has been wronged to use the law, but I just don't see it happening for having non-OE tires.

Not going to have much clearance driving it in the winter..best bet is to get another set of 18" rims and snow tires(if you really have to take it out on road)..

Funny you said that, I was going to be doing that. Would love the heritage 18' rims but I'll find something. Also Rolnslo made me remember about pot holes, and living in IL, you know how bad the pot holes have become.

i have every intention of hitting the speed limiter on the interstate,, about every time i get on the interstate! thats what i got an SS for...to go fast! in my area it is hard to find tires for this car..
