Need advice on which Axel back to go with on a 2012 SS L99 Auto?
Hi,
If you could help out a rookie it would be great! 1. I do still want to talk on the phone...Not hitting the race track. But the stock exhaust note has to go. 2. Do axle backs void your warrenty? If they do does anyone have the GMPP axle back? The video sounded very good to me. Thanks for your help! Last edited by ppiamp; 03-04-2012 at 02:45 AM. |

GMPP or Borla "touring" version axle back is the way to go. No drone and great sound, not loud. Took about 1K miles for them to break in, at first they sounded no louder or deeper than stock.

I have the borla s axleback on my l99. It is a great improvement in sound and weight over the oem mufflers. The only thing I do not like is when the afm (4 cylinder) kicks in it sound like a 4 cylinder. You have to run with tap shift or do a tune to get rid of afm to get around the 4 cylinder sound. Hope this helps. Right now I am using the pistol grip tap shift shifter to keep from hearing the afm sound.

The JBA Axle-Back sounds great and I think Maryland Speed sell it for about $440 for Stainless.

I have the SLP Powerflo Axel back on mine and I LOVE it! This is such a great mellow sounding exhaust at idle but really wakes up when you get on it. I'll include a link to a video with just the axel back and one that has the entire system including SLP's longtube headers, high flow cats, X-pipe and the Powerflo exhaust. I'm running the entire setup. A little pricey, just under $3k for everything. Or you can get the axel back alone for $700.
Powerflo Axel-back exhaust alone: Powerflo Axel-back with the SLP Longtube header set-up: You'll notice it really comes alive with the LTH's. PS, it does not compromise the driveability. When you get on it hard it gets louder but far and away from annoying. I too was concerned about that aspect. Great system!

I think the borla touring sounds pretty much like stock to me. I went with the borla-s on mine. To me, it was a tad louder but still relatively quiet. With headers, it is fine...but still a tad quiet
![]() I didn't have an issue when I had the AFM still on with the s

I had Borla S Type on my corvette with heads and cam. Sounded awesome, but it was loud!
I just added Borla Touring to my Camaro and love it. A little louder than stock and more of a muscle car sound. It's still very quiet at cruise and you can hear them when you hit the right pedal.
