Just hope all the pre orderers can hold on till their cars are built. At least they don't have to wait till 2012 like me

Good things come to those that wait. I look at it this way, I hope my car dosn't come in for few more months. Why, all the little problems that may come up hopefully will be fixed at the factory and not the dealer! Down here I don't trust these dealers to work on anything. Not very trust worthy folk. This car is totally new. It is bound to have a few issues so let them come out and let them be taken care of! Anyway, I'm new around here so let me tell you a little about myself. I have always been a Chevrolet fan. I own a 1963 Corvette and A 1996 Tahoe(309,000 miles original trans and original motor with no major work on either one), 3 different corvettes in the past and 3 different camaros. Anyway, I love this site and enjoy reading the forums so keep e'm coming.

I have mixed feeling about this. I'm happy about the quantity prospective but worried about the quality output. Its good to see that GM has made a decision to I guess speed up the production process for the Camaro, but like with any project that seems to be rushed you are almost guarenteed to have flaws. I just hope they fix it at the factory if there are any flaws because a brand new car and some of these dumb ass mechanics that these dealers hired don't mix. But I'm leaning more on the positive aspect of it all. So I guess we just have to wait and see......

i would think an added night shift would work out better for everyone, more jobs, more production, and equal qaulity, wouldnt want the people building it getting burnt out to make the quota and bypassing quality

The Peterborough Examiner reports the move Wednesday.

The newspaper says the flex line workers at the assembly plant will also start working overtime on Saturdays in June, July and August.

This report comes less than a week after GM said it would slash its work force by more than half by 2014 as part of a broad restructuring.

I'm assuming this was always their plan - keep the build slow for the first couple months so that any flaws in the initial design & process can be ironed out, take some time to gauge public demand for the car, then wait until the day of the public unveiling to announce "not only is this sexy new car just hitting the dealers, but it's so awesome and popular that we're ALREADY calling for extra shifts to keep building them!" so it adds to the everybody-wants-one feeling.

I hope this expedited production hampers some lame-a** dealers' attempts to charge more than MSRP. And I hope it convinces customers not to be a victim of those tactics...

This may not increase production?

There are 4 stat holidays in that period. Regular Full time employees with seniority will have the summer off. Productivity will drop. All the extra OT will only offset the decline.

If you want more units and hold the quality a 2ND shift would do that as they go home at 2 pm and the line is dead.

My TPW has now been moved back 3 times.

I agree, I'd want my car to be built buy somebody who is taking pride in their work and not forced to just "pump" them out. These workers in Oshawa need vacation and time off just like the rest of us. Also if you're pushing the truckers to deliver these as fast as they can, they're not going to take time to be careful with your car as they load and unload it. They just know that they need to get them DELIVERED!! It also looks like a ploy for GM to milk every last drop of sweat from their workers before they do file for bankruptcy and then have to re-negotiate worker's salaries. This entire ordeal has been a huge roller coaster ride for all.

I doubt they would get involved with the costs of hiring and training a 2nd shift in this economy. Its chaper to pay overtime. Especially when they have not yet maxed out their production speed.
GM has no idea if the demand for this car is a bubble that they will get caught up within a few months or if its going to stay steady for a year or two. I would not plan on a second shift for the near future at least.
