Fwiw I daily drive my 4th gen rain/snow/shine.

300 miles a week commute for week for the past 6 years.
- avg mpg 24-25 (300 miles and usually 12.x gallons to fill)
- not 5th gen fast of course but 13.1 @ 108 bone stock
- reliable

Up to the 100k mark I did oil changes and normal maintenance (tires/brake pads, etc)
107k new plugs
112k new clutch
127k new starter
140k fuel pump

At 152k now.

Overall I can't complain.. Car was 23k new (you can obviously get them for peanuts now).

You could get a new warrantied ls6 crate and drop it in. Would be reliable and plenty of power to keep you happy. Not to mention perfect street manners for daily driving.

I won't lie not having a car payment is worth any envy one might have over build and interior quality.

If I could afford another toy I'd get an old Camaro or el Camino but get rid of my 5th gen in exchange? Nope. I like mine just fine.

However, you should buy what you like and enjoy it.

Selling a 2010 SS for a 1st gen: If its a weekend car... Your price listed is a little off though, more like 50K for a rebuilt 1st gen, not 15...

Selling a 2010 SS for a 4th gen: I can't think of any reason, in any situation, I would ever even THINK of doing that, if you paid me.

Keep your beautiful car.

I agree totally with this statement. I would LOVE to have a first gen to play with and improve, but ultimately it's still a car from the 60's. I just think for comfort and safety, you can't beat the fifth generation.
Just my opinion, though....I do love the earlier gens.

For all those gen-4 haters out there. Eat it, enjoy it, savor it.

I almost bought a 1st gen and a cheap truck to drive to work instead but glad I bought a new one. 1st gens are awesome. Not a fan of 4th gens. Keep the 5th or get a 1st.

I'm not a 4th gen hater, I would just never buy one. That modded one is no nicer than a base 5th gen in my eyes... whatever it's just opinion.

I've had one of each generation. None compair to the 5th Gen. My first Camaro was a 69 SS396(L34) that I bought in 1971. I had it for 34 years and gave it to my son 5 years ago.

1st- 69 SS396
2nd- 80 Z28
3rd- 83 Z28
4th- 94 Z28 & 02 SS

Had all 4 generations at same time.
