GTR's are awesome. You will be spending more money on modding it than you would on a Camaro, but its worth it. Some GTRs with just an intake, exhaust, and a tune make over 500 to the wheels I believe... |

Absolutely has to be the GT-R. I think we'd all agree the Camaro is a great car, but there really is no comparison..

Get what makes you happy.
Keep in mind that early GT-Rs had transmission issues and computers that had to have the launch control removed to keep a transmission IN the car. Does the car have an extended warranty? Is the transmission COVERED by said warranty? Remember, early adopters of the GT-R ended up with shiny paperweights when Nissan refused to repair VERY EXPENSIVE drive lines in these cars. You sure you want to jump into the 'exotic' world and live like this? I ask this because I had an 2006 M5 BMW that I loved...but every time I hit the start button I wondered if that would be the last time. The anxiety ruined the car for me.

I have two comments...
1. Why does ANYONE on here give a crap what you buy? 2. I may be the ONLY one in existance but the GT-R does NOTHING for me. I don't care how fast or impressive it is. The only reason I get somewhat excited when I see one is becasue they are so rare. I am by no means saying my camaro is better in ANY aspect... I just don't like it. My advise to the OP... esp after seeing Overflow's comment that you used to have an LT... now an SS... now you want a GT-R. You need to figure out what they hell you want and quit pissing money down the drain. |

You're kidding, right? What do you think the maintenance costs are for the cars you listed? The GTR would be cheap compared to those cars. |

GTR = high maintainence bills / high insurance = a great car.
Someone else posted (I agree) can afford the car - not the maint. Maybe it's more to the tune I don't want to spend that much on maint. I was at the dealers - GTR just had a $7000 brake job............. |

The trasmission issue was because of people failing to read the manual. They were using the launch control too often, and that caused the trans to fail.
The GTR is superior the Camaro in every way. If you can afford the GTR, don't pass it up. If you can afford to modify the GTR, then you can own the street (or track). Here, maybe this will help you make up your mind. P.S. Still think the $100 bet is BS? ![]()

- You'll take a bath on your Camaro and lose perhaps $15k in mods you've done and value on the trade-in (or even personal sale). - Best possible deal on a used GT-R is gonna be $60k+. - You're going to be extending your current loan (let's say with the trade, you're keeping the same monthly payment), basically adding to your time on the loan, so add say $500/month for another 3 years (best case) = $18k - Best case, 20k miles a year, gas at $4/gal premium, with the Camaro @ 10mpg (take off the lead shoe!) you'll spend $8k per year on gas. With the GT-R, 20k/year @ 16mpg, you're spending $5k per year. Savings= $3k. So, add it up: -15k loss of value on the Camaro -18k extending your loan +3k gas savings = you lose $30k on this deal. = or, $500/month on top of the ~$400/month you spend on gas, for 5 years. Do the math! ![]() Padre |
