I am soooo pissed. I took the car to Reliable Chevrolet in Richardson, Tx and they found the TSB to replace the hoses and flush. I went to pick up the car, after 3 days in the shop (that's another story) and THEY FRIGGIN SCRATCHED MY CAR!!! To make matters worse, the service writer tried to polish out the damage ON MY DIRTY FINISH! This, of course, made it 10 times worse. I am beside myself about this. Now I am forced to either pay someone to fix the damaget they did, or take it back to them so they can F it up some more. Uggggggg!

Well the fix was short lived After having the cooling system flushed several times and changing out all the rubber hoses, the foul smell is back. Their fix lasted all 900 miles! Back to the dealer again!!:(

Sorry to hear that. So far mine is taking. They also polished out the scratch so I am happy at the moment.

kfm, how many times has this resolution been tried on your vehicle? I'm terribly sorry to hear about you having to go back again for this.

I've been to the dealer 3 times total... 2 times before they figured it was the hoses and to order the parts which took two weeks. The 3rd to flush it and change out the hoses... I was told they flushed it several times... The car has 3,300 miles now... It will actually make you sick if you idle with the vent on fresh air for any length of time..

Have you ever spoken with our Customer Assistance Center? They would normally be able to help in this type of situation. If you'd like you can message me your contact info and I'll get you all setup with a case to possibly get some more resources on this issue for you. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Ok, The bright Engineers at GM had the dealership flush the cooling system again, but this time they didn't change the hoses... Well this 2nd fix didn't last the 45 mile trip home!!! I call the dealership and inform them that the problems back... They tell Me they're going call back to their engineers to find out what to do next. I have a fear it will be to pull the heater core! which means out comes the windshild and dash!

Now I did a google search and could only find several 2005 Chevy Equinox's with the same issues as My car... It seems they attempted the same flushing and changing of the hoses.. The few cases documented stated the vehicles were flushed numerous times, but did not state if the problem was ever resolved??

kfm, how long did they have your car the 1st time? I ask because one of the hoses has to be ordered (not stocked at dealer). If they got it back to you the same day they did not change one of the hoses. It only takes a single old hose to re-contaminate the whole system over and over. Not to rate your dealer but I suspect they got lazy.... They need to orcer all new hoses and call you when they come in. They need to flush the system for 6+ hours multiple times. Only then will the problem go away. Worse case, take it to another dealer. This should NOT be happening to you. If you have to take it home again and it recurrs, request a new vehicle.

Yes, they did have to order the hoses the 1st time... took about 10 days to get them in.. I made an appointment and brought the car in and they had it for almost a day and a half... The smell was completely gone for about 900 miles... Weather they replaced every singe hose is another question?

The 2nd time, they had the car a whole day and state they flushed it several times to include the overflow tank..

If the inside of your windshield is fogging up when it shouldn't be, then your heater core is most likely the reason for the smell. See the post "Heater Core Gone Bad"

No fogging inside the windshield, not wet behind the glovebox or on the passenger rug, no leaks or signs of leaks under the car..

Perhaps it is some kind of engine fume, ???. When I put the system on recirculate I do not have this problem, only on fresh air.

ANyone else experience this? Any ideas from you experts on what I can check before I take it to the the dealer (I really hate to take my car in)?

I know there is a filter on the passenger side in front of the firewall. I have not removed the cover but it looks sealed. Any idea where the fresh air source for this is??
Exhaust leak around the collector are. Had the same thing but I changed to headers.
