It only happens that liquidation would happen if they do not have enough money to maintain the manufacturing facilities.

Meaning... GM would have to go completely broke before being shut down... either that... or a Coup made by the Canadian government.

I just got a book from GM that talks about GM-Canada and the restruturing plan. It is all going to work out in the end so dont go into panic mode. GM is looking for some Canadian Gov money as well and will more than likely get it. Relax

Sorry, but I don't care who you are, even President Obama. It doesn't take rocket science to see that a car as successful as the Camaro has been is necessary for the immediate success of GM. No idiot would build a car that's gotten so much good attention and press and just let it go in the blink of an eye. Whatever it takes, I see GM keeping this car around, at least for the next few years...

I'm sure Chrysler would like to have continued building at least the vehicles that were selling at a profit... Challenger, Ram? But once you go into bankruptcy with an uncertain future, suppliers do not want to continue shipping parts.

Things may go a little better for GM when (yes, I said when.... did you look at their first quarter financial report?) they file, just because I think everyone understands that some portion of GM can't be allowed to fail. Not sure Chrysler has as many fans amongst those who are now running this mess.

It's going to get much uglier for GM before it gets better, though.

In this day and age I think we need to let unions go the way of Pontiac. There are now international laws in place to protect the workers and so on. If you arent doing a good job you dont need someone to protect your job. You need to be fired. Yes, I know that unions were VERY good and are still needed somewhat in certain jobs. However, their time in car manufacturing has come. When a company needs to cut costs it has to do it everywhere.

What good is a union if there is no company to protect the workers from?

I closely watch the automotive industry which means I read everything from all of the players. While there is no question that there is tension between the CAW, UAW and GM as well as the governments of the US and Canada. The key issue to look at is the state of the economy and its impact on the industry. The CAW can be as mad as hell if they want to be but here is the point. They have jobs and many of their brothers and sisters do not. In this economy that is a very compelling reason to come to terms and make a compromise. The worst case scenario is GM moves the production to another plant. If we see GM begin to add another plant making this car, like a plant in the US then we will know that they are doing that to protect themselves.

The author also ties these tensions to the additional shifts that were added recently. This is related to GM's desire to sell every profitable car they can as soon as possible. The Camaro is the most important car GM has made since the Malibu and is essential to getting them back to profit. They would be foolish to not ramp up production so that everyone of us that wants a car can get one ASAP. As GM cuts costs they also must sell as profitable cars and the Camaro was designed to make a pretty nice profit and to offer a car to a pretty broad audience.

There is no way GM is going to allow the Camaro to be in jepordy. As soon as Oshwa got the Camaro there were rumors that they would try to apply leverage to get a better deal on GM because the Camaro is so important. I read this stuff for about a year. Recently the tone has changed and I think most of the members are very happy to have a job and they realize that GM can make this car anywhere.

No way GM is going to let the Camaro be effected by labor games.

If Uncle Sam Obama, oops, I mean the US taxpayer, ends up owning lots of GM, as they do with Chrysler, the Camaro will be an embarrassment politically for his party and agenda. It is a muscle car, he wants GM to build ticky-tacky, cheap econoboxes that run on electricity. He has already praised one of the worst car compnaies on the planet, Fiat (Fix It Again Tony), for taking over Chrysler (maker of the super Hemi Challengers and Chargers) and for their leadership in econoboxes no American in their right mind would buy. He thinks Fiat and himself will force Chrysler to stop making muscle cars and trucks. He has the same plan for GM. Hope my Camaro arrives before he takes over.

Good

Teach them how to fry hamburgers when the plant closes down
These unions have been a thorn in the side of the manufacturers for years
shuting down production when sales were good because some member was reprimanded for taking too long to take a Le@k

I beg to differ on the "There are now international laws in place to protect the workers and so on. If you arent doing a good job you dont need someone to protect your job. " My wife was let go because the new boss wanted her friend to have the position. My wife held that position for over 5 years without any bad reviews. When she tried to fight it, the Superintendant said that we live in (Texas) a "at will employment state". In other words they can let you go for any or no reason. I am in a Union and that would have never been allowed. Saying we dont need Unions now is like saying we don't need the Constitution now. If there is nothing to stand in the way of employers treating employees unfair then they will do as the want. I don't feel that Unions are always right but they DO serve a purpose.

Super 60 I owe you an apology I am just Po'ed after visiting my dealer and finding out about the 5,000 markup that was going to be added to my order. Didn't mean to take it out on the auto workers
