Ok, now for some on a different aspect of the spacer, will it accept paint or powder coat, since most/ some of us will be ditching the engine cover, it would give options for dressing the intake area. Also if we do ditch the engine cover, would it be possible to machine the cover mounting " wings" on the cover?

If it's the material I think it is, then it will accept paint just fine. When I get a new job and can begin buying stuff, I plan to purchase this and paint the outer edges...

Now I'm not saying that there's no gain with increasing Plenum volume since I haven't been on the dyno yet, but I wouldn't say is masking either. I guess you could say we are masking with vmax and mace insulator too what surprised us the most is how our kr data went from the usual 3.6(93 octane) on part throttle to almost zero! Vince had to actually triple check the tune to make sure I was not running a different tune with the knock sensor desensitized. The benefit of decreasing sragnet air and distributing equal air to all 6 runners is enough to justify the purchase for me even if I see zero gain. If we can decrease kr on this engine naturally without actually desensitizing than that is better than a few extra hp anyday. The hump on top of our plenum cover is there for the same reason as to what mace's 12mm plenum spacer help in doing. If we can see some extra gains plus help with the infamous LLT knock, than that's win win for everyone. So far the throttle response is awesome! We will all soon find out how it does on the dyno

Spoken very well Jay!

You've said in another way what I've tried to say before.....not always about saying that this product can add 10 peak horsepower or whatever, but sometimes about how it makes the car feel better...more responsive.

That said....I'm going to at least wait and hear user feedback before my purchase, but I do trust ya brother.

...and how the heck do you type all this stuff up on your phone? lol

Paint yes sure.. But just paint the outside visible side. Powdercoat NO! That only works on metals.

Of course its possible to machine the intake and get rid of some of the ugliness but it will $$$ ya if you can't do it yourself.

High temp paint on an properly prepared surface with our spacer/insulator will be fine

I'm no engine guru, but I'll take a shot at this:

Knock is premature ignition (an explosion) of a charge of gas and air that is out of synch with the rest of the cylinders.

It can result from "hot spots" in the cylinder (carbon build up, or red hot metal on a spark plug electrode), or from too lean a gas mixture, or too low of an octane rating under too much compression.

Since its out of synch, it could occur before the intake and exhaust valves are closed- allowing the explosion to exert pressure and spread through areas outside the "combustion chamber" that are not designed to withstand the resulting pressures.

Or it may occur at just the wrong time to try and stop dead the rotation of your V6, just as it's spinning at 7,000 revolutions per minute. Very bad things can result.

The plenum appears to help distribute the air/fuel mixture more evenly, which may decrease the likelyhood of 'knock".
