Guess I'd best trade in the Camaro for a unicycle. I say unicycle, because a unicycle's one wheel is probably way quieter than a bicycle's two.

Unless the unicycle is stock, in which case, I'm screwed again.
That's good!...Then the chief of police should know you are perfectly legal and the neighbor is harassing you!

Your best bet is to call the code enforcement office and speak to them about the situation they will most likely tell you that you are 100% legal and there is nothing the neighbor can do.

Sorry to hear that you simply have a case of having a Douchebag as a neighbor. Can you arrange for a 4:30 AM flyover of an F-22 or maybe an F15-E? Your neighbor will surely appreciate the display of American muscle. :-)

Digging into the code right now....

What I wouldn't give to know the decibel level for a start-up and idle of a stock SS 2012 Camaro right about now....

Google is a wonderful thing.....Santa Clara County Government Noise Ordinace...

http://www.sccgov.org/SCC/docs%2FSCC...0Ordinance.pdf

...55dBA is your noise limit.

Depending on what chart or reference you look at, a normal conversation is anywhere from 40-60dBA.

I already referenced that publication in an earlier response (Google is indeed one's friend).

I'm curious about what *my* decibel level is. I confess: I do not own a device that can measure my stock decibel level when I start my car or let it idle.

Don't understand how they could be more restrictive than what is legally stock and sold in the state...Good luck.

LT, I pretty sure that you exceed the allowable dBA on a cold startup and high idle, but the code allows for exceeding the dBA by 5 or 10dBA for up to 5 minutes per hour.

BTW, what does the guy complaining drive?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Your car is stock according to what you have told us. There is no way that a stock vehicle can violate noise ordinances, especially in California. Your neighbor is just a whiner and needs to man up and quit being such a pussified hippie!

Also, if anything does happen to your car (which hopefully nothing does happen), you already have a suspect of who possibly did it!

Worse case scenario:

Let him turn you in. Once they find out that you're not violating any ordinances, you can tell him to piss off!

I'm not sure but I don't think any local government can require regulations on sound levels stricter than the EPA. Private property is a different matter though. Besides that, him thinking it's too loud means nothing. Without clear limits and testing against those standards it's just bitching. I would let him know that the car is stock & meets all government sound standards so maybe there's a way to work it out. Would backing into your parking spot be better for him? If he knows first hand that you're not trying to be a jerk he may change his tune. You never know. People like to be heard.

If it does go to some committee or the sheriff I would show up in uniform though. I wouldn't give that a second thought. You have earned the respect the uniform gives and those kind of people should know it.

Noted that you are a officer......................assuming you're a gentleman too, its time to either break the rules of conduct or accept the naked flogging..........you'll give them for being on your property at odd hours or yourself, while your neighbor with overly sensitive receptors............watches. lmao
