they shouldn't change unless you are making multiple claims. The "magic" number with Country Companies is 3.

Something to always remember insurance is based off of the "law of large numbers". So they figure there is so many drivers in zip code 77001, from there they use complicated formulas to figure ok we should only pay out so much in claims. When that number is surpassed well guess what happens. Rates go up for the whole group not just one person. Becuase the numbers they submitted to their investors is based of course on certain percentage profit. In orderto meet the numbers they have provided to their investors they gotta raise the rates to of course screw us and be profitable.

I've never considered car ins a rip off. If I have a loan on a car, and that car gets whacked.... The loan holder deserves to be protected. Also, my investment deserves to be protected. If I damage your property, be it your car or your home during an at fault accident, you deserve to be protected. The cost in an accident can be large, and the ins company has to be able to cover this while still remaining profitable and in business. Many states allow you to also self ins if you have the cash to tie up to meet the legal requirements, and I know that I do not.
Case in point... I was about 18 and acting a fool in a 1980 Grand Prix that I put a W30 455 olds into. I had it .030" over with a nice cam and some head work, she ran well! I wiped out on the main street of my town while doing a spectacular fishtail burnout, hit a guy head on totaling his car, left his car as I was still moving across the incoming lane where I jumped the sidewalk into the parking lot of a parts store. I hit the side of the parts delivery S10 pickup, pushing it sideways into the next car and the front of it into the plate glass window of the store.... So I got 3 cars and a building with one idiotic crash that sent the guy in the first car on an ambulance ride. As an ins company, you have to account for the rare insane and bazaar accident that will take multiple accounts of payments many months to recover. My one stupid accident that was my own fault likely cost Erie Ins $20k or more. Now, I'm all grown up, and I'm much more responsible, but I like knowing that I have ins and that they are there in case something crazy ever happens. Was it a proud day? Hell no! But I learned some important life lessons that day as the police came, and I spent a couple hours answering questions and being nearly in tears as they extracted that dude out if his car with the fire dept hydraulics. I've never forgotten how bad that feeling was, and how everyone that drive by starred at me. It was hugely embarrassing, and a day I'll never repeat. I also lost my car. It was destroyed. I've not had a ticket or accident in years, I think over a decade. My rates are very low and are locked in, even in the event that I have a claim.

I also have 8 vehicles and 3 motorcycles insured with them. I pay right around $250 a month for 9 months of the year. Oh, and I have my Yamaha Rhino full covered, and 2 trailers.
