Good grief. To quote so many other people on this board in other threads, who cares? You better damn well hope the 11.9 run was on the Goodyears, because if that's the best the car can muster in stock form on drag radials, it's going to be a long and painful season at the drag strip versus '11-'12 versions of it's direct competitor.

I'm wondering about the 117 mph trap speeds. Even at a 4400 lbs raceweight, I would expect a bit more (especially on DRs as that *should* preclude excessive wheel spin). A lot depends on the air though, and we have no way of knowing that for these particular runs.

That's pretty damn good if they're not running DRs.
That awesome if not DR

So you think GM is lying when they clearly state it was done on stock tires in the article and post it on their website? Let see what kind of car you drive yep a ford what a surprise

Man some of you guys sure do get upset about nothing. It looks to me like the lead on questioning what tires were used was taken by a couple camaro guys, not Ford guys. Like I said before, both sides have some good points, but this is really a dumb argument. The zl1 is definitely capable of these times on stock tires imo. The only reasons I find this whole thing interesting are

A. trap speeds are considerably slower than one would expect out of an 11.9
B. I don't understand why they didn't publish the DR times.
C. If the 60' mentioned above is accurate, that is VERY fast for stock tires.

"For perspective, the Camaro ZL1 is so quick that some drivers who experiment with “drag radial” tires or full racing slicks may find themselves going too quick for most NHRA-sanctioned racetracks, where a five-point roll bar is required for vehicles running 11.49 or quicker. The 11.93-second ET in a stock ZL1 tested by the engineers wore the factory-issued Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires developed specifically for it, putting the car only a scant 0.44-second away from that additional racing safety requirement"

This is so clear, 11.93 on the stock Goodyears. The above quote even talks about times with DR's being 11.49 or quicker. Why are people so confused? They stated they brought the DR's along to make sure the rear end and driveline can handle them without problem. You’re crazy, or ignorant, if you think the best time after running all day was only 11.93 on DR's. Its CLEAR, without confusion that these times were ran on 100% stock, off the showroom ZL1's.

It wasnt DR's the times were on stock tires the only reason they mentioned DR's is just to see if they worked good with the stock car because they knew alot of people would be using... They clearly said that...

Eventually, a Camaro 5 member will take there ZL1 to the track with video of the stock tires on to prove that these will run high 11's in the quarter. Then this "might" hush people up. Until then this will go on.

All I have to say is that my hat is off to anyone who can cut a 1.69 60' time on a street tire.
