Hey Bob, FYI I asked Jeff I think you know who he is, he's the track manager at Milan.

No, don't know Jeff, but I appreciate your looking into it. All a bit shady, but there is no doubt in my mind that the car could/should/has/will run in the 11's bone stock. The 1.69 on stock rubber is...well...difficult to swallow, but stranger things have happened. As stated before, I am/was expecting more than 116-117 mph trap speeds though...that is a bit disappointing.
Would it be possible to find out what day they were there? Thank bud. ![]() Bob |

Jeff was the tech director for NMCA for many years, he still helps out. He's a straight shooter.

It is what it is and we will learn more as private owners post times on showroom stock ZL1s to validate or invalidate GM's claim. So far, not one, including two very well known and experienced speed shops, have been able to run sub 12sec 1/4 mile on 100% stock ZL1. Perhaps GM need to include free 1/4 driving lessons with the purchase of the car.

Please cite the official reference where "GM's top brass" stated that the ZL1 was faster than the 2013 GT500 in the quarter mile.

Not "top brass" at GM, but Al O. has been clearly quoted as saying, "We predict that the ZL1 will be quicker to 60 than the GT500." and inferring that, because no Nurburgring time has been forthcoming from the opposing camp, that the ZL1 will be faster than the GT500 around that venue by replying to the point-blank question of whether or not he thought the ZL1 would be quicker around the 'Ring, "No question."

SuperDuper Speed Shop/Tuner Emporium has ZERO interest in getting the minimum-possible Showroom Stock times (or a maximized dyno pull) out of ANYTHING! PERIOD! Why? Because it would minimize THEIR contribution to the overall performances possible for that vehicle/combination. Take a look at the fastest/quickest Showroom numbers for ANY brand/make...and it's ALWAYS an "individual" getting the results, NOT a "shop"... ...and MAXIMUM performance from a Showroom combo takes TIME...something the Camaro Clan are just now getting a chance to try to optimize. We PROMISE to give the '13 GT 500 more than a couple of weeks to show us THEIR best...honest! Last edited by LOWDOWN; 05-05-2012 at 03:55 PM. |

I don't consider Al Oppenheiser, an engineer, "top brass" either. I consider a President or, at least, a Vice-President, "top brass." Therefore, I don't consider the statement, "GM's top brass started thumping his chest saying how much faster the ZL1 was than the GT 500" to be accurate, if the individual who made the statement was referring to Al Openheiser.
