You do realize this is a production vehicle right?Dealer should make everything right for you, but you kinda have to let him do what he has to do to fix it.

I had a paint defect on the underside of the trunk decklid. I took it to the only paint pro I trust to do quality work. He fixed it and the dealer wrote me a check for the repairs. Talk to the general manager at the dealership about having your paint issue fixed by a bodyshop of your choosing.

Second, I sympathize with your frustration on getting a brand new vehicle and having it not meet you quality expectations. Sounds like you may have gotten a "unique" (not in a good way) car. Bottom line is the dealer/GM needs to make it right so that you are happy. Not much of another choice.

Don't you have another dealer closer than 100 miles?
For someone who is banging on someone else for spelling, maybe you should eat some of your own words...... See above!!! if you're going to call someone out you should make sure you're not making the same errors!!

Had a chance to look over a ZL1 this weekend with me own peepers. One of the things I was impressed with was the quality of the paint job compared to my 2011 SS. The ZL1's paint had amazing depth of color (don't know how else to describe this.. my paint seems to just set on top of the car but the ZL1's paint seemed to be a part of it) and try as I might I didn't see any orange peel, swirls or chips.

The paint process on a ZL-1 is no different than any other Camaro of the same model year. However, they may have changed the process from one model year to the next.

Yeah that is what I figured too.... but trust me something must have changed.

In fairness I have not looked so close at any other 2012s.

Lol @ people thinking factory GM paint is good. What a joke. I have re-painted 2 5th gens bumpers just this year because they weren't even close to matching.

Many people i have met are extremely ignorant to quality paint jobs and procedures. So many people think factory paint is "the best"....thats a laugh

the paint seems thicker and painted under the hood better in some of the spots where my 2010 didnt have any paint. the color you look at may hide it well but black shows all. i honestly dont care about the peel, its the buff marks that hurt me

Hopefully the haze will buff out. With that being said lets address a few things. 1st. Even if you received a new deck and spoiler painted from the factory it won't match. To many variables between the time it was painted and the the replacement, for example, heat, humidity, when the spray nozzles were installed etc. Secondly they do bake the paint, but not at 1000 degrees, really? Thirdly the deck is painted as the same time as the body, the quarters and the deck lid are on the same plane. Lastly GM doesn't skimp on the clear coat as it provides UV protection. For the base coat. So if the finish has been knocked down one the vehicle was damaged in transit, and the haul a way company took it and had it repaired or some foreign material got on it and the haul a way company or the dealer tried to repair it. With that all being said have the dealership measure how many mills of paint is on the affected area typically this is done with a paint thickness gauge your dealer should have one, if not his local paint supplier should. If it needs to be painted whomever does it will want to paint the deck lid on the car so that they can blend into the adjacent panels for a good color match, then reapply the clear coat. They will need to detrim the deck lid, remove the spoiler, detrim the 1/4's remove the rear bumper and tai lights, and possibly remove the back glass. Hopefully they are shooting water base paint as it is much easier to match factory colors. Finally, it the spoiler needs to be refinished, that is a good indication that something happened to the car, as the spoiler is not painted on the rear deck lid, also it is a different substrait, so it will not match 100% as are the front and rear bumpers. Insist that they replace all the emblems with new as the adhesive will be compromised once they are removed. Good luck, and by the way dealership body shops are not smucks and no I don't work for a body shop, or a dealership.
