I still think a guy with a Miata is going to make the unskilled Zl1 and GT500 drivers wonder why their superponies keep getting beat.

Comparing these times to times from other cars at this track is interesting. I would have thought that both cars would be faster with the credentialed driver they had? The base c6 ran 1.35.6. Why is the ZL1 9 seconds slower?

Griggs is a serious racing suspension. Their SLA front suspension handles great with tons of grip. Here are a couple vids of the Virginia City Hill Climb.

I'm with this man. I don't think either one of these cars were driven to their full potential. A Pontiac solstice is faster? Come on. Fire this driver please. A win is a win but I think there are much better comparisons to come. I wish we could just get a good, lengthy comparison on these cars without all the BS. I mean 3 part tests, missing shifts, and statements like "I wanted the ZL1 to win" kind of discredit his for me. Why use the lap for the article that you missed shifts on? Did this guy only get one run per car or something?

WWAD? Lol, what would an auto do on this same track, same driver? No missing gears, and the other car doesn't offer an auto. ZL1 with its more weight, less HP wins by even more. Something to be said about handling. Chalk it up for the auto guys like me that realize manual is old school, fun, but taking a back seat this day and age to better technology with auto and paddle shift... Tests and todays race transmissions are proving auto rules.

Try researching some more guys.
According to the Gingerman raceway site they updated the track..

------------------------------------

2011 Season Updates

We have added a new section of the track that will dramatically increase top speeds and offer multiple configurations, including a new counter-clockwise layout.
Original Configuration:* 1.88 Miles
Extended Configuration:* 2.14 Miles

Seriously, I think you need to start looking at Ford as to why they didn't.

Now that real world tests are coming in, many in the Ford camp are discounting it...because it seems they were led to believe that the Shelby with it's improved handling over the 302 Boss would basically be a ZL1 killer at the track.
What kind of an automotive company advertises its weaknesses.

I still surprised that some are surprised that a car with 4 wheel independent suspension and MR shock control and larger tires can beat a car with a SRA and smaller tires. This outcome was always a given. Doesn't make the Shelby any less of an amazing car but it wouldn't be one you buy for beating down a road course. The drag results are now posted BTW

And that we should own both.

I like the comforts and balance when it comes to driving.

It kinda reminds me of the story of the young bull and old bull.

Young bull says to old bull, "how bout we run down this hill and shag us one of them heifers"

Old bull says to young bull, "how bout we walk down this hill and shag all them heifers"

Not sure about that. I'd almost written of the ZL1 for either another Boss or a 1LE. Now the ZL1 is on this Mustang fans shopping list again.
Age does make a difference, on how you see things ...

"The two have very distinct, individual ways of making it down the strip, but the common thread between the two is gratification. Every single pass in the GT500 and ZL1 was a ball, and was so involving that we couldn't care less about our time slips."

LOL wow!!! Can barely declare a winner only to say it's not about time slips, it's about the experience going down the track. Clearly the experience only matters if your car is losing. On the road course, well its all about time.

No point in waiting for the part 3. It is already clear the GT500 will never pull ahead.

It's a tie so far bud.

"Warring factions of people finally fessing up to the fact that the other side can do something right -- that's pretty cool."
