I wonder too, how much slower would the base version run.

IMO this review didn't and won't change anyone's mind about their preferred car. I also think age has a lot to due with perception of which would be the better car. To me the older a person gets, the more a balance in life is appreciated. I grew up going fast in a straight line and enjoyed it very much so when I was younger, now not as much. I like the comforts and balance when it comes to driving.
It kinda reminds me of the story of the young bull and old bull. Young bull says to old bull, "how bout we run down this hill and shag us one of them heifers" Old bull says to young bull, "how bout we walk down this hill and shag all them heifers" Age does make a difference, on how you see things ...

What if the ZL1 was faster around alot of tracks the Ford Gt was? Then would you believe it? As it seems the Z and the Gt500 were almost identical around a 2 and 1/4 mile track. The ford GT is a decade ago and down 100 HP on old tire and no MRS or electronic shocks. I would imagine the Z may be faster than fords old super car, as that would make the 500 faster than it as well.

Absoloutely! I've know exactly what "feel" the driver/writer is describing. Where I live there are very few straight roads and they are perfect for what this car does. 1/4 mile just doesn't do it for me, yet I'm happy to get on it when I feel the need to. |

I find it interesting that the ZL1 had shifter issues in this test, while Insideline had problems with the Shelby's shifter in their test.

In reality the ZL1 Camaro just might out handle the Ford GT, though probably not the GT500. |

There's too much if this, if that, etc. The tests and comparisons has just begun, and not everyone will be happy, even from those who are Chevy loyalists. Come to think of it, we haven't heard for any Ford folks yet.
Oopps...hope I didn't start something...sorry.

"The time was in: 1:44.53. A significant seven-tenths of a second faster than the GT500. And I estimate the missed shifts cost upwards of half a second per lap"
Annihilation!!! and Humiliation for the GT500 with an 80hp advantage, 250lb weight advantage and over $5k higher price tag. I know it hurts, but if you use a little KY lube, it will help.

He stated that after driving both cars around the track and was expecting the ZL1 Camaro to post a slower lap time due to missing a shift every lap. He wanted it to win because handling wise these two cars he felt were not in the same segment. Which is what brought him to the conclusion of "From an on-track perspective there is no contest". Pretty much stating the same conclusion that Edmund's Inside Line came to in its outing with both cars. Also for those questioning, I can see a miss shift costing .5 seconds on a lap as it interrupts your acceleration. |
