The highest level of octane that you need is whatever is recommended for your engine. I believe with the v6, even 87 is just fine. Anything higher isn't necessarily going to improve performance or efficiency and as was previously mentioned, is paying extra for nothing.

But if it makes you feel better, keep using preimium.

87 octane is fine for the V6.

My last 5 fill-ups have been Exxon Premium @ 93 Octane. It certainly has NOT improved my mpg's but it HAS greatly improved performance.

Ever since I purchased my 'vert 11 months ago, I had been filling up with Regular, 87 Oct. I always experienced a bit of "sluggishness" when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th gears and posted on the forum about whether this was "normal". Some said "yes", some stated "no". http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=163658

I can, however, state without a doubt, that 93 Octane has DEFINITELY improved performance and alleviated the "sluggishness" shifting gears. Based on this experience, I'll continue to fill up with 93 Octane.

For those who may be interested, I keep track of my mpg's via this site.

The higher Octane in the premium will keep the car from pulling timing to prevent knock, but as far as how much that improves performance all depends on a lot of variables. Try it and see what you think, is it worth it?

I love MPGtune.com. I use it as well. You definitely need to get more highway miles on that thing. I see you are averaging 15.748. I'm averaging 19.176 with my LS3, but I'd estimate that about 70% of all my miles come from the highway. And I'm getting pretty old and slow.

Our engine is designed for 87. I have a hard time believing 93 will affect performance, considering that 93 is the same fuel, just with less knocking. I think it may just be in your head.

There are a couple of threads over in the V6 bolt on section (very old) where they did dyno runs to compare the two. The V6 has very sensitive knock sensors and does pull quite a bit of timing on 87. Putting 93 octane in did increase the HP a bit. Only you can decide if it's worth the extra money. You certainly won't get higher MPG using it.

I know the difference I felt was "not in my head"
