You could try a pipe wrench or vice grips if either will fit in.

Do you think there is maybe a pair of Forcegrip Pliers that are big enough to hug around that thing?

Heat it with a blow torch and use a filter wrench.

Way to be tolerant guys.

OP think of all the money you saved doing changes yourself, buy the new part and you are still ahead.

Strap wrench is the way to go if you can fit it, you want to be careful about any bits of metal dropping in if you start shoving a wrench in that hole and twisting.

Forgive me. I know this is going to sound very stupid. What the heck is a upper oil filter housing. Never owned a V6 camaro. Do they have more than a filter, pan and drain plug on bottom and a fill cap and dip stick on top. Everybody laughnow!!!

alyssasdad......the v6's oil filter is up high.....the top of it is about level with the engine cover on the drivers side, its the only one they have. its a carthridge that goes into the housing....the V6 doesn't have a spin on filter......as you see in in the pictures at the begining of the thread.

New upper housing ready to pick up from GM parts tonight. I can't find a nice (non AL) stronger aftermarket upper oil filter housing anywhere online. Soooo.....how do I get the old filter cap off without surgery? Award winning photography attached.....
Simple solution...is Super Glue it back on just enough to hold it on, take it to dealer for an Oil change, allow him to break it when he puts a wrench to it, then allow him to replace the bad part free of charge.
