I agree, they should have called you and given you some options before just puting it back together and telling you later.

I'd give them an earful and would like piece of mind and talk them in getting the parts installed that you purchased for the build.
Yes they lied (lets not fake the funk about it) about why it wasn't installed
Yes they should of contacted you before they buttoned it all up and told you THEIR reasons of why it's ok to omit these parts.
Yes maybe you should of been crystal clear of the parts YOU wanted installed
So if it fails maybe you can split it with them? Just my .2 bud
I'd like peace of mind, do it once do it right is what I always say.

I'm running a different cam than stock, with different valve springs, on top of ported heads and with lighter pushrods...the only concern I have about the RPM is ring seal over a prolonged time, and the rod bolts...I've seen a significantly better track record with the rod bolts in these newer Gen 4 engines than I have with the original Gen 3 stuff though...I'll probably install the Katech bolts this coming winter. I've got them here on the shelf, just didn't feel like taking the engine out or dropping the sub-frame down to get to them.

Plus...the stock rev limiter on your LS3 is 6600 for a soft (throttle and spark) limit and 6700 for an extreme (fuel) cutoff.

So, if you're keeping the stock chain, I would recommend keeping the stock tensioner. If you have the C5R put in, I'd change to the dampner block.
Does this mean I can't run the LS7 dampner/tensioner with my stock L99 timing chain?

Really? So the stock dampner/tensioner isn't that bad?

- Does it make sense to at least install the LS7 dampner/tensioner?
..(as a compromise instead of install both LS7 tensionier and C5R Chain)

- Can the timing chain cover gaskets be reused? They just have been installed during the cam install 4 days ago.

BTW. What did it end up putting down and which cam did you end up with?
lol why would you pull the motor? That's just asking for problems.

Thanks guys

To me the only questions remaining are:

- Does it make sense to at least install the LS7 dampner/tensioner?
..(as a compromise instead of install both LS7 tensionier and C5R Chain)

- Can the timing chain cover gaskets be reused? They just have been installed during the cam install 4 days ago.

I would either leave it alone or install both. I would have no problem reusing those gaskets.

Discussions like this makes me cringe..
I am modding my car / engine "I should say JRE is modding it for me"
Cam Package and supporting MODS

a few things that I have read in this post that seems to make sense
if the plan is stock LS3/L99 Chain use Stock Tensioner
if the plan is upgraded LS7 tensioner use C5R upgraded Chain

just keep the fit of the chain / and tensioner consistent and correct

Not sure what the under drive pully has to do with causing failures??

Your car will be forever slow. Hell, I spin my 4.125" stroker to 7400

@ The OP, regardless of whether or not the car will be fine, if it isn't what you asked for or paid for, have them do it right. Why do you need validation for that? That being said, I used the stock chain/damper on my 231/236 and beat the hell out of it and it ran fine. No worries at all imo

Thanks everyone for your posts!

I guess I just keep the stock timing chain + the L99 tensioner for now.

If I'll ever upgrade to the LS7 tensioner I'll make sure the timingchain-cover rubber o-rings have no tears and reuse them.
