Correct. Another case in point - We painted some show cars a special color a few years ago for a special autoshow - no damage to them, we simply painted them a color that isn't a color available on the particular models. (...don't ask.... ) -- we were not able to sell them and they are now in service at the MPG and DPG.

You are wrong. (About GM scrapping cars and trucks...) (...I won't speak for the company for whom you work - but if what you are saying is actually true, I'm glad I don't work for them! ..... )(...and if it's the one I think it is, I'm glad I turned them down several years ago when they approached me to come to work for them...)

Actually, there must be GM Witnesses there when the car or truck in question is scrapped. I used to have to do this back in the late 70s and early 80s. We had to ensure that no parts were usable - -and that the driveline was destroyed. In some cases, powertrains were donated to technical schools - (they still are) -- and in some cases, vehicles are donated to schools as well.....they have select components removed and destroyed - airbags are removed -- and the school signs a legal document that the vehicle may never be used on either public or PRIVATE road (...that after a school felt it was OK to use a Truck for campus work -- it was not OK to do so...) Yes -we've had one or two individuals at tech schools over the years get in trouble with the law when they chose to ignore our legal agreement...... You would be surprised at the large number of cars or trucks that GM (and other manufacturers) scrap or donate each year. Flooding tends to be a large percentage -- I especially recall having to repurchase a few hundred new Chevrolets and Oldsmobiles from a dealer on the Jersey shore when a particularly nasty " Nor'Easter " put his lot under about two feet of water. I still remember the sinking feeling of driving in and seeing so many beautiful cars ruined - a row of Camaros (I believe the year was 1983 or 1984) looked particularly bad as the water caused the rear hatch releases to 'open' - and the strong winds shattered most of the rear windows........ Vehicles were towed onto the mainland - stored in a field - and then one by one scrapped......

If its not accepted by dealer then it's not delivered and still GMs. They will scrap it or put it into school system. If dealer decides to accept it they can fix it and sell it.
Of the car companies I've worked for (no domestics sadly) the Germans were the worst for fixing and selling cars as if nothing happened. And they were creative at making sure damage was under the supposedly corporate mandated minimum percentage level.

Well I got the whole story now. My1stCamaro was right and the ZL1 did belong to Best Chevrolet in New Orleans. Apparently Brian Harris is the preferred dealer in Baton Rouge when it comes to having body work done so that's why the car was sent to them. From what I was told they're waiting on a response from GM on what to do with the car.

To end this story. Friday I was at Brian Harris getting my Z looked at because of an AC issue and was told by 2 salesmen there that GM had just sent down the word to have the car crushed and it has to be videotaped and sent to them.

Since that is now a $5X,XXX write off for GM, I wonder what happens to the accused? Grand Theft Auto charges? Joyriding? At a minimum I am sure he is fired. The rail yard should be insured but the insurance company would want their money back as well. Any ideas?

I believe GM took this decision so to whoever it gets sold to next, the person would'nt face un-expected problems with the ZL1; it will ruin the brand new ZL1 image if thats the case.
