I second the rental car idea, or tell her she can't drive it if she smokes the clutch, other than that there is very little she could do to damage it other than grind the gears.

You know Doc the flip side of the coin to me is it's just not as easy to drive 6sp C5 . Hell I'v own over 50 car's and by far the C5 take's a bit of getting used to. I have also spent quality time with my wife lessening to my clutch....some drivers just don't have it (Sorry my Love)

Yeah I know, it can be a little bit of a beast. The car was supposed to be for both of us to enjoy, so I feel a little bad since I was the one who pushed for getting the manual. I guess nothing to it but to do it, and pay for an expensive clutch later if it comes to it.

As a commisioned auto sales professional, I think wasting somebody's time to get a free lesson is lame way to resolve this. While you're at it, just stop at a diner on the way home from the dealership and dash out without paying.

I agree with you on this, it is a waste of the sales person's time. I would only do that as an absolute last resort in dire circumstances. That being said, I don't think you could just walk up to a salesman and tell the truth about why you want to do a test drive. No one in their right mind would let someone take a car out for that purpose, so I think the need for deception is understandable yet dishonest and rude to the other person.

Only problem with this logic is that she'll also be learning on the wrong side of the car, and the wrong side of the road, LOL!
