Yeah because AFM would be enough to help the ZL1 get past the GG Tax. Thank god I live in Canada, where we don't get these retardedly stupid EPA taxes on cars. We just get screwed on the purchase......

The LSA and for that matter the LS9 are horribly inefficient when it comes to gas milage, nothing would have saved, short of a miracle, the ZL1 from a GG Tax..

Compared to other engines of similar power output....the LSA and LS9 are actually pretty miserly on fuel...

Totally agree the AFM is NOT something for the ZL1. I basically paid the GGT by putting down $2000 more on the car I bought vs the one I had on order.

I just got a chance for the first time to snoop through the vehicle information in my car. I have 1450 miles on my Z and the computer said that I was averaging 15.6mpg. This is all two lane roads and I haven't been gentle trust me. If the computer is accurate I don't think it is bad at all. The wife's suburban get's about the same.

Those engines are also in super cars, the LSA and LS9 are not. I would expect an exotic like a Lamborghini or Ferrari to get less than stellar mileage.

I have not tuned my ride yet but, i did bolt on a Magnaflow 3" comp catback.

Based off the horrible tones i get when it slips into 4 banger mode. Basically in the span of 30 seconds if i am not tapshifting. I go from a nice sounding growling v8 off the line to a high pitched droning & vibrating tuba cruising my way along at 1200rpms.

I want to kinda stab myself in the ears so i tapshift most always.

A tune cannot come soon enough.

I could only imagine the house of horrors tones that would resonate out of a ZL1 transforming from a beast to a busted civic with a folgers can trying to do 40 in 1st gear.

Well...yeah....but what I'm saying is - of all the engines out there producing 500+ hp, few of them return as much fuel economy as the LSA or LS9. So...they really aren't "bad" at all when put in the proper perspective...

Furthermore...you've got to remember that the ZL1, at least, made no compromises for fuel economy. Even 6th gear is a little short for performances' sake.

Rolling around town and a little bit on the highway I'm seeing anywhere between 17 and 19...and no, I don't drive like granny....So I can't complain one bit.

We actually come out relatively well on the ZL1, less than a 10% difference IIRC.

Although we do get screwed on destination

But at the same time, when they can charge a quarter to a half million dollars for those cars, I would hope that the engineering budget has a bit of room working on fuel economy.

10 years ago we'd have to pay the luxury tax on the car.
