Doesn't aluminum oxidize over time? Or is that the same/different from corrosion?

Aluminum forms a passivating oxide layer almost immediately when in contact with oxygen. Corrosion occurs when some electrochemical process is initiated typically when the metal comes into contact with a salt or acid. These are two different things entirely. If anything, the oxide surface on Al is a protective layer and is actually what prevents Al from rusting.

WTF did I stumble into? Is this chemistry class here? Last time I checked I cheated by copying answers in that class.

There is also a spec of dirt near the tag with the tire on it. Don't you detail your car??

These parts are made from a mixture of moon rocks and aluminum so they react differently in our earths atmosphere.

Its a door strike people! It makes contact with the body of the car. Just trying to warn folks. I love my Chevrolet, cut me I bleed Chevy orange. I expect rust on exhaust, rotors and other parts on the car. Just dont like rusty parts in direct contact with the car, it can corrode the body. just sayin'. You have a nice day and keep smiling now you hear?
