If it's not legal how are they doing it now? They started dropping dealers, before bankruptcy, so that is not how they are doing it. They are simply not allowing them to renew the franchise agreement. Its plenty legal.

GM screws me over

Just got off the phone with my salesman from Tom Benson Chevrolet and he tells me my car is 4100 over invoice. This after repeatedly being assured (verbally) I would only be paying MSRP. Before you ask, I don’t have an officially signed copy of sale - the fact that these greedy a-holes are even attempting to play these games caused me to hang up in complete disgust.

I have had GM's back up till this point - now its over. I will never be buying a GM product again in my life, and will be looking to sell my Tahoe ASAP.

I now have no questions why GM is in the hole they find themselves.

Hello Challenger - good bye Camaro...........I'm F-ing sick to my stomach.

Has the car been delivered to the dealer?? I'd be in the dealership owner's office right now, screaming and yelling....not that it would probably do any good. Real sorry man, there's about 5 on this forum with that same story now.

GM did NOT screw you over. Your salesman did. Don't be upset with GM, they had nothing to do with that.

Your thread title was incorrect (your thread was merged) - It is the dealer that screwed you over, not GM.

GM has absolutely NO control over what a dealer charges.

Even thought it was verbal, the integrity of your dealer sucks. Another dick move.

to me:

dealer = GM... it is just a way for each of them to pass blame to the other when something goes wrong. Those dealerships wear the GM logo proudly.

you should piss and moan to anyone claiming the GM name.

It is not up to the customer to decide where the blame should lie. You dont get mad at only McDonalds headquarters when they give you food poisining. The local store and the headquarters carry the same trademark.... you let them decide who pays your lawsuit.

The dealership is drawing that interest, as that's where your deposit most likely is held. The money isn't in GM's hands unless your dealer has paid the invoice.

I hate to sound like a broken record but you are blaming GM for something that particular dealer has done. When it comes to price of the product, the dealer can do whatever they want and GM can't do a thing about it, legally. I'm sure other dealers of other auto companies, foreign and domestic, have done the very same thing...bacause they are greedy bastards...not the manufacturer of the product IMO. Sorry to hear this happened to you. I'm in the same boat with a verbal agreement. I can only hope and pray they honor the agreement when my car arrives. So far, my dealer has been great and I have no reason to doubt them but reading stories like this really unravels my nerves. Good luck going forward.

I agree, GM gets no pass from me on this. IMO Their names on it, legal jargon aside, I don't view them as separate entities. If the dealer screws me, GM screwed me and I probably won't be buying their products in the future, especially if a decent alternative exists.

My point is that laws are laws. You're gonna see this no matter what auto company you go with. Could easily happen with Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc. The analogy mentioned earlier about McDonalds is not an apples to apples comparison. Yes, McDonalds is a franchise type of business but set up differently. If I buy a cheesburger in my town for $.99, I can buy that same cheesburger in a neighboring town for the exact same price. Car dealerships absolutely compete with each other, FOREIGN OR DOMESTIC, so the McDonalds analogy does not apply. The franchise laws used in the auto industry have created the environment that leave it up to the dealers to either do the right thing by their customers or choose to pad their pockets.

+1 GM
-1 Greedy Dealer Bastards

GM should give notice/close those dealers that misrepresent the Company name/image..GM doesn't need another 'black eye'..
