I see many more Honda, Nissan and Toyota commercials than Chevy. Does that mean they are in trouble too?

Honestly, it would be time for a GT500 upgrade...and that might not be so bad.

warranty, replacement parts, and dealers would all still exist.

most dealers would rely on their other franchises to stay afloat and continue to service the cars. aftermarket provides every nut and bolt for cars from the 60s, 70s, etc so no worries there.

it is against the law to leave customers high and dry on warranty so that would also not go away.

I would keep my car and stop driving it immediately. then it would be worth something to my grandchildren in 75 - 100 years. of course by then there would be no gasoline and the car would have been requisitioned by obamas grand kids for robot parts.

There's a reason why there was bi-partisan support to bail out the automakers in 2009. GM dropping off the face of the earth, or at least out of North America, would really hurt the economy. The government does spend a lot of money, but that's not new. The goal is to have a balanced or surplus budget, which was obtained in the past under the Clinton Administration.

GM closing its doors isn't something I worry about. If GM is closing its doors, there are bigger, more pressing problems to deal with....

I have wondered about that too......and OEM's used to be required to support their car's part with genuine OEM parts for a longer time than they do now, might just be 7yrs, think it was 11 or more before Congress changed the rules. Aftermarket is not affected by this.

Anyways, and the thread before this went on forever, but if GM could have went through the normal "restructuring", they could have come out better than ever. GM still owes the USA, with the US part in that being us, the taxpayers more than $25billion, this isn't your dad's Chrysler bailout of 1978.

It may have been better for someone to buy the Chevy name and continued with just the moneymakers: Camaros, Vettes and Silverados, and maybe fleet sales of an SS Impala for cops. Ditto for Caddys and who knows, surprised someone hasn't tried to buy the Pontiac nameplate.

In any regards, even the Camaro5's aint rare, so parts will be available for a long time, especially the way all you nuts like to mod out!

Best,

I will wait and cross that bridge if it would ever happen. I only think about what if scenarios on investments. My car is just a fun way to get around, not any kind of investment for me.

Imagine for a moment that GM suddenly closes its doors. No more warranty, no more replacement parts, no more dealers. What would you do? Keep your car? Dump it for cents on the dollar? Discuss.
I dont think you will ever see the "end" of Chevrolet & Cadillac. Someone would buy those nameplates, they are moneymakers and those 2 will live on regardless of what happens to "GM" but would it be funny to see FMC end up owning the "Chevrolet" name? How weird would that be but it could happen.

Worst if it was Toyota or Honda.

Both of what I bolded in you quote are not correct. Monetarily, who would fund the warranty claim? How would a warranty claim get carried out?

I site Daewoo as a prime example. There were many people who purchased new cars off the showroom and had no warranty the very next day, and no recourse. No law protects you from a company that files bankruptcy.

I understand what you're saying but you didn't understand what I was saying. Compared to other car companies, Chevrolet seems to be promoting their cars/trucks a lot more recently. I recently watched a whole 30 minute special on GM/Chevy cars on tv. That's was a good informative show. I was just wondering.
It's called marketing. Wouldn't more advertising mean they are doing better if they have money to spend on it instead of other items?
