What Would YOU Do If GM Went Belly-Up?

We all know of GM's past financial issues. Most of us also know that, since the government-funded bailout, the US Government is the largest shareholder of GM stock. As a corporation that bleeds money faster than mach speed, I personally don't trust our US Government with those shares.

Imagine for a moment that GM suddenly closes its doors. No more warranty, no more replacement parts, no more dealers. What would you do? Keep your car? Dump it for cents on the dollar? Discuss.

I would get any other car, after all - every other car copied Camaro.

Not gonna worry about this. There are more important things to worry about in life. I would be more worried about all the people it would put out of work and the fallout from that before worrying about the warranty on my car.

I'd sell off a ton of stocks, but a shit load of left over Camaro parts from them(they WOULD sell it off in some fashion to recoup whatever they could) and I'd charge out the ^SS to everyone on this site for parts :P Like 3X GM prices. LOL

If GM went belly up, most auto parts suppliers would also close, many related auto businesses would close, one hell of a lot of people would be out of work and the country would experience a massive recession.

Most of us would be out of jobs within weeks.

Nothing, like we can change the world by what we drive. Pontiac is out of business and we still see them on the streets. They will keep making parts, just not any new vehicles.

I would dump it in the heartbeat. Funny this comes up..I just recently realized the GM, particularly Chevrolet has been spending a ton of $ on advertising....auto magazines, tv ads and specials....made me wonder if they're in trouble again.

Advertising doesn't mean they are financially in trouble. You see tons of Superbowl commercials every year and those companies are going bankrupt. Bad analysis of advertising.

Advertising adds value to a product, introduces products to the consumer and also promotes products that a company has. It also is about branding to let people know about their company.

Without advertisers, we wouldn't have this forum.

I would buy a new ZL1, new Vette and an ATS with the 2.0 turbo. Another words, I would keep buying GM cars till they cease production whether it be in 1 year or 100 years.

No kidding. Geez, I failed to realize that!

I understand what you're saying but you didn't understand what I was saying. Compared to other car companies, Chevrolet seems to be promoting their cars/trucks a lot more recently. I recently watched a whole 30 minute special on GM/Chevy cars on tv. That's was a good informative show. I was just wondering.

Not Likely, no car manufacturer is in the business of making cars, most people don't understand that, car manufacturers are in the business of making parts, if mother GM closed it's doors then yeah no new vehicles but they would still be in business making and distributing parts and charging out the pooter for them because there are what some 250 million registered vehicles on the road and about 10 million of those are GMs.
