This is a new muscle car age, and these numbers are just insane! 400 horsepower is going to be overwhelming to those of us who haven't rolled around in cars with that kind of power. Think about the first time you guys hopped into a performance machine long before you knew the difference between a clutch and a torque converter. When we open the door and seat ourselves behind the wheel, it won't matter that it isn't 500 horses. We'll be swatting the bitter competition on the street and on the track; at shows and in parking lots; on the block, at work, and when we invite our neighbors to our garages. Don't look at 400 and think you need more. You do need more. I need more, too. For now, just remember that there are some very powerful people who look back at Chevrolet history and know that it isn't about selling Uplanders to soccer moms and Cavaliers to 16-year-olds. They know that these machines are works of science and art, and they want to produce a masterpiece that challenges the laws of physics and the limitations of last year's machine. 400 horsepower for $30,000 is a freaking steal. Now bow down and thank that bowtie on whatever you drive now that something even better is coming because we're lucky to have a company that's paying so close attention to us that they won't settle for less than bruising the pride of every other performance brand in America.

I'm a touch curious. If it is a "de-tuned" LS3 pushed down to 400/400 from the stock's 430/424, what's the likelihood of there being any possibility of swappping the parts in to push it up and over to the LS376? http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Pa...l.jsp?engine=2

Are you kidding me, it's a 6.0 LSx, they don't have to do didly sh*t to push it to 400.

First, it wouldn't be worth the work to swap in other stock parts for 30hp, especially internals, and second the LS3's got .2L more of displacement, so it wouldn't be that simple. The aftermarket will catch it up easily with mere bolt ons.

I haven't seen anything that says the production camaro will be a 6L just that it will be a V8 with 400+ horses. Everyone assumes it would be 6L because the LS2 in the concept was 6L 400hp. With the LS2 on the outs the LS3 is a logical choice and it meets the 400+ stated target.

Also my question wasn't to get back the 30hp the LS3 should have normally tutned. It was how much work would it be to get it to the 480hp/475ft-lb of the LS376

Actually,

"Peper said only the coupe will be offered for the first nine months of the model’s life, with a choice of a 400-plus-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 or a 300-plus-hp, 3.6-liter V-6. He said mostly V-8s will be produced, for enthusiasts eager to get their hands on the first ones off the assembly line."
~First page of thread.

(^) That's why everyone assumes it's a 6L.

...But, I admit. I'm stumped. What's an LS376?

Thanks. I didn't pick up the thread untill it was already 8 pages and skimmed past that.

The LS376 is a factory mod of the LS3. The link above goes to the LS engine page on the GM Parts site.

Bob Lutz was once quoted that the ZR1 was gonna get a 7.0L engine.

We all see how that turned out

Don't put TOO much faith in the accuracy of these quotes. They're not official releases chiseled in stone tables and handed down from the top of the mountain

its not a big deal?! well if it wasnt a big deal ,why did they make it. obviously there is some new technology or something with this motor that is over the 6.0 or there would have been no point in making it .2 liters more.

Adding displacement is but one way to increase power. Based on the market at the time where bigger was better and fuel economy didn't matter much, that was probably the best solution to add 30 extra hp. Could you make 30 more hp with the same displacement? Easily. Heck you could do it with less displacement.

Now hear this......

Many quotes -- and more misquotes in the past week.

Do not take everything you hear as gospel......some quotes were taken out of context -- others had numbers and such wrong.

Premium.....the V8 Camaro will not be $37,000 -- if it were, it would bomb.
It will be affordable and it will be in Mustang territory. "Premium" could mean a few hundred dollars......

We think you're going to be pleasantly surprised at horsepower and torque numbers -- fuel economy - and standard equipment -- (Or -- Good ole fashioned 'bang for the buck' ...) This car is going to have some details that 'surprise and delight' -- ......

You've heard me say this before and I'll say it again......there is a lot riding on this new Camaro -- and some of the best in the industry are working on it.......

Have I lied to you yet??????

Now-- go forth with your enthusiasm -- (but when you hear some high pricetag put on the car -- don't believe it -- the LAST thing we'll do is price it.........)

(by the way -- the "!2 disciples of which there are 15" will be coming to Detroit in May -- and they may have some impressions for you once they return home.) (.......that is, if we can get them to stop grinning wildly....)
