Reason i asked how ofter you are changing it is mine shows 58% oil life remaining and its been ~5000 miles since last change. I had reset it at last change. My last vehicle i used to change it 3500-5500 miles, but that was standard oil not synthetic.

Ah - mine showed 78% life remaining on 2500, but I don't see how changing the oil 'too frequently' after the break-in hurts anything but your avaliable funds for mods.

Speaking of easy... The LLT is too.

I can change my oil without a jack. I weight 125 so I just crank the wheel in one direction. And change away. Takes me about 10 minutes lol.

Now the SS is a different story....

You can also get four short pieces of 2"x4" lumber, maybe 2' long each, drive up on one under each front tire, then up onto the second one, stacked on the first. That gives you 3 1/2 additional inches underneath. That should be plenty to get under there with a drain pan and a wrench. Pretty cheap, too.

I am hoping someone can give me some good advice, I have read so much about when to do the first oil change etc. I have also read about people changing the rear differential fluid early on too (and possibly other fluids), due to stuff/grit from break in getting in there? But I am not sure how necessary this is, I have no idea.

I am a little confused to be honest, because I am at 4,200 miles and the DIC says 55% oil life left, and I am struggling with whether I should change the oil now or wait until it is closer to 0% on the DIC, especially since the manual says nothing about making the 1st oil change after less mileage than subsequent changes. It seems people trust the oil life thing in the DIC generally, but should I be trusting it for the 1st oil change? Or only the ones after the 1st?

It's just good practice to change the fluid out after break-in. You could wait, but if you financially can do it, why? You'll be surprised how gross the fluid is... I changed oil, trans, and rear diff fluid all at once around 2500-3500 miles (can't remember exactly when)

Ok I am definitely going to do the engine oil. How necessary is it to change out the diff and transmission fluids though? I can appreciate how grit from break in can get into the fluids, but then I also wonder why the manual never mentions anything like that. You would think the manual would be extra careful in terms of service recommendations to prevent warranty claims?

Pretty easy right?

I can say that nothing about working on this vehicle has been a PITA...yet.

Now my 05 E500 W211...an entirely different animal.

There was a study some time back that showed excessive oil changes can actually cause more wear. Presumably this was due to repriming the system back up to pressure after the change.

Free, well it cost me $1, maint warranty from the dealer, take it in and they do it for me along with the filters and everything for no cost... :P

Though if still have the car when that runs out I will be doing it myself, as I always have on all my cars in the past...

I never trust the car to tell me, with full synth its every 5k miles, sooner if I do alot of hard driving or harsh conditions like extremely hot.

In general I change it at every 5 on the odo, at 5k, 10k, 15k etc, even if I changed it in between due to harsh conditions. That way you dont have to remember bizaar numbers.
