Heck this morning I had one behind me while I was stopped at an intersection and he decided he didn't want to wait anymore so he jumped the curb and drove around my car to blow through the red light and continue on his way. No lights, no sirens.

His information says he's from Detroit. That city is a cesspool of crime and corruption. Watch the news lately? Those Police are probably so amped up over all the idiots they have to deal with on a daily basis, this was just icing on the cake. As others have already stated, something is missing from the story. Police just don't rip your car apart looking for dope and then tow your car. If somebody believes this, they're either gullible as Hell or are always in trouble with the law and are quick to make excuses for their idiotic decisions.

Two officers pulled up in the community I live in after repeated harassment after purchasing my Camaro and proceeded to ask for my info and asked me and a passenger to get out of the car. One of them goes to the parking lot and says he sees the track marks very minimal (Ill post pictures in the morning when I get them on my cell phone. They officer accused me of doughnuts (None of the tire marks indicate a circular intact motion suggesting I was doing such a thing.

A third officer showed up and the first thing he did was laugh and said "****ing Tow It!" in a goading voice and proceeded to tear my trunk up searching for contraband.

This is after Officers had stopped me shortly after purchasing the vehicle in the town I live in and harassed me threatening to cite me for Attempted Assault if I revv my engine past anyone again.

Furthermore neighbors had reported me for speeding on my block and the Deputy Police Chief sent me a threatening letter bringing up unproven accounts and a false report that was filed by a City Service Department Employee months after I had sent an email to the Mayor of the city complaining about harassment from him at the City Civic Center for bringing up a family members health condition.

I used to work for our city and as early as three years ago was making 8 an hour part time on the back of a garbage truck. I know own a % in my own company and I am doing well and decided to purchase a new Camaro and the harassment and nastiness I get locally has been out of control.

I am only Twenty Five and I am sure it gets under the skin of ex co workers seeing someone who was making minimum wage afford a higher standard of living than they are used to.

So basically my car was towed and I was given a ticket for Reckless Operation.

Personally I am not even bothered by it as much as I am disgusted and worried about the well being of my vehicle when I pick it up this morning from a local Garage it was towed at.

I am at a loss for words regarding the behavior of the one officer who swore and tore the lining out of my trunk this evening. The officers involved started questioning me about my job when I actually make more than them a year now and it took every bit of self control to not just tell them to mind their own business. I was positive and upbeat. They told me to start walking home and wouldn't let me wait to see my vehicle towed.

I am seriously worried they damaged my vehicle out of spite given all the issues I have had with this city since leaving.

My grandfather is ex city council and a city inspector still and ex PD and the name carries alot of political feelings. Right now I really don't know what to do if the car is damaged or about the accusations.
Were you issued a citation?

Here in TX, private property is just that....private. Officers can't write tickets for ANYTHING on private property except for handicapped parking violations or standing a vehicle (leaving it running while running into a store or silimar....only two I can think of at the this time).

however, officers can ARREST for reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. Then, and ONLY then, can they tow the vehicle.

Shoot...if we have a major accident on private property and neither vehicle is drivable, they have to call their own tow trucks. WE can't move the vehicle. I'd be very curious to know the state laws and/or city ordinances which allow the officers to tow your vehicle w/out writing you a citation, arresting you, etc.

On top of that, you are on private property. You don't have to leave unless the owner of the private property requests that you leave. Sure, they could arrest you...and then you can file a civil suit against the city for a violation of your rights. You also go to Internal Affairs and file complaints against both officers. You ought to go and do that now.

First, I'd find out about the laws which allow them to do that.

Second, check on that car. If there's anything wrong, file a complaint with the city for damages. Every city has a claims dept (should a pd vehicle, city vehicle, etc) be involved in an accident, etc). File a claim with your insurance as well or just call them...see what they say.

But...DO NOT let this go if you find out that you are in the right.

Hope some of the info helps.

There's plenty of good officers out there....and I can also say that there are plenty of bad ones.

Hope it works out.

I've owned f-bodies since I was a teenager and you know the only times I got harassed by the cops? When I was driving like an idiot.
This. +1

Take that, Casper... and now hes 22.

The issue here guys.. is not that we think the cop mistreated him, it is simply that we do not believe the story. I personally refuse to believe a cop is going to write a citation based on a simply seeing rubber laid...even if the tread leads right to that vehicle... OP has no idea what the cop really saw and he doesn't have to tell him until court.. he can issue the citation regardless. As TAG said.. some states it is private, some it is not...

Even STEVE FRIGGIN DALLAS AGREES!... the man says he commits crimes weekly, lol

I think that everyone here is missing the main point, which is, that he admitted to driving like an idiot both on private property AND public streets. Enough said.

For those that say cops don't target nice cars/crap cars/sports cars EVER are clearly naive. And for those that think it happens ALL the time are just as much.

It does happen. Not all the time, but it does happen.

When I was in drivers Ed, the program says to take your car to an empty lot and slam the brakes. Learn what ABS feels like through the pedal. Know how far it takes your car to stop. Steer to the point that you slide. If you know these things, you know your car better, and when you know your car better, you are a safer/better driver. Drivers Ed said nothing about trying out launch control.

We don't know what happened. We know what the OP told us. It's is not my place, nor any of yours to pass judgement. He could be under undue scrutiny by the police.

??? apples to oranges.. what does ABS have to do with laying rubber? Even if he did grind it until the point he slid, he is not going to be going burn out silly... but I get what you are saying, however most reputable driver's ed agencies at least provide you a lot to do so...

the OP stated that hes had a history of complaints for his driving. the cops are probably sick of having to come out and warn this kid to stop driving like a fool. you should listen to the warning they are giving you, and tone it down.

NO NO NO, I am NOT defending his actions, what I'm saying is if the LEOs didn't see it happen, they can't just assume.

I fixed my post haha

And here in Texas, I took parent taught drivers Ed that had an online course, that why I said that.

BUT, I completely agree, laying rubber isn't a chapter in drivers Ed.

Yea.. like I said, I just have a hard time believing they didn't see it.. unless they flat out told him "we didn't see you, we just see the evidence all over the street". How does OP know they didn't know it was him because he gets so many complaints and sit and wait for him to shoot himself in the foot... that story sounds a bit more feasible.

If one neighbor complains on the guy, then he just has a bad neighbor... when numerous are calling command staff and he even acknowledges that more than one neighbor is calling, he is a problem. To push that many people to go to that trouble is pretty bad lol
