Wow, never thought they would approve that. The unethical implications of that is estounding!!!!Thats why they never would allow bonuses for recruiters based on #s.Ofcourse it has been 7 yrs since I recruited.

The article only mentions Guard.Does it apply to regular Army?

About your leave days... Remember when I told you the gov't will always take your money back by nickel and diming? It's the same way with leave days. You already have your 30days leave planned and you aren't even in. You'll come out of ait with what 7-10 days? If you go to a deployable unit (which by mos it sounds like you will) you'll be taking block leave, so there goes all the leave plus you'll want to take the whole 15-30 days. You may end up going in the hole on leave. Then you deploy and start building leave back up, and then R&R comes up. Which will take 15 days and will probably send you in the hole again. Then you come home off deployment and the unit blocks 30 days for leave. Again you'll wanna take all of it bc you've been deployed forever. Not to mention if you have emergency leave at all - that counts against you as well.

Point I'm trying to make is that you seem educated about how the army works and you have built this plan around "what a recruiter told you". Recruiters will sell you the world - it's their job.

Hold off on any huge purchases until after ait. You won't know what's going on till u get to your unit.

Just so you know your not eligible for bah or bas, so if you are using that onlne calculator you need to take that into consideration. Deployment pay is 500-1000 dollars extra depending on rank and marital status (seperation pay is 250 / month)

Goodluck

it sounds like the recruiter told the truth but it a perfect world. Like the guy said you get 30 days but you only get 2.5 days a month. I can tell you that if you do to a deployable unit like the 101st(they have alot of choppers) you cant just take your leave when you want. They will in a sense give you the dates you can go. I am not dogging the military but its not as easy and luxiorious as the recruiter makes. The govt will get theirs out of you. And I can tell you at some point in time you will get screwed with your pay or leave time, it happens with everybody. Im glad youve decided to wait. Because you never know what could happen. You could go straight to iraq from AIT. That mos is critical, chances that you go straight to Iraq or go to Iraq within 6 months from AIT is REALLY high. You might get lucky and go to a unit that just got back, but I doubit. The army is great in a lot of ways, but it also can be shitty. So get your answers and see how it goes. After being in for a year or two you will have figured it out

Sounds like you are pretty determined about this car but you should take a step back and listen to what everyone on here is saying. First, your life is about to change BIG TIME so you have no way of knowing how things will go until you are settled into your new life. Second, your financial rationale is WAY OFF. You have no concept of taxes right now since this is your first paying job. 25% of your pay will be gone (I'm being conservative with that rate). Also, have you gone to a loan payment calculator? How are you getting a car payment on a 2SS for $500? You will not qualify for a 3.99% rate because you have no credit history. At the end of the day you have to realize that right now this car should be something you should work at getting down the road. Not something you have to get right now. Wait it out my friend.

If I save up and drop a 20K down payment into a 40K loan, that leaves me with 20K left correct? I average 7% interest over a 72 month period would be about a 340.98$ payment a month. If i only dropped 15k into it, thats about 426.00 a month on a 72 month loan. This is assuming i save up for about a year, i get 150-200$ extra a month because i'm enrolled native american (half blood) and its my percapita. I would most likely only be able to drop 15k into it though, after taxes i will prolly only make 20k a year, and i think i'd most likely spend around 4-5k of it on just stuff.

Deployment pay sounds good, an extra 500$ a month would be sweet, i don't think i'd spend it on much in the desert any way and would be a great way for me to save money lol.

I have to go eat but i'll be back in a bit haha

first off- good job on joining the service!

now my biggest tip of advice - wait just to see where you will be, what you will ACTUALLY being paid, if/when you can have a car.

FYI- i was in about a year before i allowed to drive a POV (you can try to hide it, but most training commands won't give you tags unless you have a written statement authorizing you to have a POV, so no approval = no car on base)

E-4 took me year and a half, and that was considered fast, E-5 in 3 which is highly uncommon...expect to wait and work for rank

I'm an E-5 and i'm still contemplating whether i can afford an SS, and i'm better with my money than most.

So thanks again for joining, wait to see whats going to happen after boot. and then get your camaro!

I would definite wait a little before ordering. In basic it might seem like you are doing really good at saving, but thats just because you can't spend it on anything else. Once you get to AIT and you get a little freedom you will be surprised at how fast the money will go. I know you are telling yourself that you won't spend it, but a few drinks here and new XBOX game there and next thing you know your money is gone. Use that time at AIT to make a budget.

Once you find out where you are going I would recommend calling a dealer in that area and place an order. Make sure the deposit is refundable, that way if you find out you are deploying soon or you know you won't be able to make the payments then you can cancel it.

Get the LS or used like I am.

With LS you mod it later while getting "into" the vehicle. Upgrade the wheels, exhaust, intake, add a subwoofer and some cheap chinese floormats from wal mart.
