The scariest moment in my Camaro was driving home one night when an oncoming van hit a deer and sent it skidding and spinning across the highway in front of me. I thought I saw the deer in his headlights so I had already begun to brake. If I hadn't, I would have run right into it. It was surreal seeing the deer spinning like a top going about 35 or 40.
I try be mellow with other drivers, I was a hot-head in my youth and I've cooled down a lot in my road rage. Only one time I had the ol S&W ready at hand to deal with a guy, he was drunk and staggered over to my car in the kinko's parking lot (I stopped to make copies). Apparently he thought my driving was atrocious. I opted not to pull the gun on him as he leaned in to say something I realized how drunk he was and proceeded to call the cops on him - he went to jail and I went on my merry way. |

Glad you're OK Belle. In Fla you can have a loaded weapon in the car if it is not easily accessable. If you are CWP it can be on your person. Brandishing on the other hand is a felony without CWP. With CWP it is a second degree misdemeanor. Bottom line, don't pull it unless you are prepared to KILL the other person. Requires Fear-for-your-LIFE! Personally if I couldn't evade I'd stop and get out, waiting to see if the individual turned around. If so, I'd keep my vehicle between them and me and keep my hand on my hip. Let the chips fall.
On the other hand. If someone was with me who could not defend themselves I would make every effort to evade, not stopping. The logic gets circular real quick.

Well if the cars drove themselves without any human interaction, theoretically they could all go 100mph since they'd all be driving in sync with the rest of traffic.

Next time do this if possible

I don't stop suddenly, I just go slower and slower and then stop. What this does is make a tailgater look "obvious" and puts the focus on them (and not you). Usually the tailgater will explode with anger. In your case, you also have nothing to worry about since you are packing heat. |

Rounding a blind corner at 60mph during a dark, foggy, morning only to encounter a doe and two fawns. I know your not suppost to swerve, but instinct took over. Dodged them, but had to pull over to regain my senses.

As for crazy people in cars stories, I've got a few but this one was back in my college days when I was confused and driving a mustang lol. I was driving along thru traffic and was the middle lane of a four lane stretch of roadway (turning lane in the middle). Well I needed to be on the outside lane to stop to a blockbuster and return some movies. Well the outside lane was a solid line of cars. I turn my blinker on and wait for a car to hopefully make a hole for me. At this point I'm slowing down in my lane a bit but nothing is behind me so that's fine. Well a few cars go past and then I see a hole open up in front of a old white Buick Century, so I begin to move over into the other lane and begin to increase my speed back up slowly. Well either the guy driving didn't see me or he was just being a prick, but he didn't slow down one bit until he was right on my ass, then he appeared to mash on the brakes rapidly to keep from hitting me. I am seeing this in the rearview mirror. So now he's apparently pissed because now he's waving his hands around and it looks like he's shouting angrily. Well this continues for the next half mile or so, while I turn off to go into Blockbuster. Well Captain Uncontrollable Anger decides to follow me in, whipping his car in behind me and tailgating me around the parking lot to where I eventually stopped. While I had pulled into the parking space, the guy in the Buick had pulled across behind my car and stopped, blocking me in my space. By this time, my seat belt was off and I was starting to get a bit angry myself, but mostly scared that some nutjob was gonna try to assault me or maybe even kill me. So as I pop my door I'm looking back over my left shoulder and grabbing my pistol with the other hand from where it was sitting on the passenger seat. The guy gets out of his car at the point where I'm standing up out of mine and he looks at me and starts to take a step towards me. As I finally get fully squared up with the guy, he stops. I think either because he noticed the pistol in my hand or maybe he just had a change of heart. I think my words were "Can I help you?" Or something to that affect. He kinda looked at me in the face then just said "You need to watch cutting in front of people. You made my dog fall in the floor when I locked my brakes up." And then he turned and got back in the car and left before I could do anything or say anything else. Before he got back in the car, I noticed his wife staring at me, a horrific look on her face, I think because she was looking straight at my pistol. Hopefully she didn't notice that my whole body was shaking as he got back into the car. I was freaked out a bit by the whole thing, especially since I had just gotten my concealed permit not even two weeks prior to this event. I'm just glad he did the smart thing and got back in his car and left before it escalated, because unfortunately I don't believe it would have ended well for him or me if it had of escalated. |

These are absolutely crazy stories.
I think we should all read through them and realize that there are no winners in any situation where we display aggression. We all lose. I would not be proud of myself if I reacted in rage because of some supposed slight, nor if I reacted to someone else's road rage. What is gained by it? We are all better for it, if someone acts in rage towards us, that we let their emotional issues be their own. We shouldn't participate in it. There are some people in the world who are idiots, and they are not reasonable; yes they acted unfairly but that's not our problem to own or solve. |
