No wonder a lot of you guys have money to mod.

I'm a computer technician and take home less than $30,000 a year.
i know thats what i was saying ??? paying cash for cars and 1/12 of my income ??!? ill be blessed not to have 25-30 % go to a car ...

I did apply for a job in a bigger city, I would be starting out at about $12,000 more than I make now. So we'll see how that goes! Maybe this week I'll here if I have an interview or not.

It's all about location and demand for workers. I work in the oil field in Northern Alberta. Any regular joe who doesnt mind working out of town can easily make over 100k a year. That's with little to no experience or education. Hell, companies here go to the Philippines and other countries to hire hundreds of workers just to fill the jobs. If you are college educated or have a trade, we're talkin 200k+.

Ours is about 8%. Our 2nd car is 10%. Our mortgage is 3 times the amount of our Camaro payment.

Holy crap! My students loans are all consolidated and are 4% interest with less than $200 payments a month. Can you refinance the loan?

Holy God, I couldn't even imagine making that much. I have a degree in Network Engineering, and I started teaching myself how to repair personal computers when I was 14. I have 2 years of full time professional experience in IT, not including the part time and summer work I did while going to school. Also not including several business clients I assist in my free time.

I DREAM of making big bucks, but I never will. I have a business degree that may as well be used as toilet paper since my work experience is all in security and any job that wants a security person, they want a criminal justice degree.

That sucks :( I know how that goes, almost any company looking to fill an IT position wants a BA degree with oodles of experience, or their list of job duties is sooo unrealistic. You have to know how to repair computers, manage the network, write script, be fluent in all code languages since the dawn of time, be able to write software on the fly, oh and starting pay is $15,000.

Have you thought about going back to school to get that degree? I've thought of doing the same, luckily experience will help me out. I'm pretty lucky to land my current job, beats the year and half I spent at Walmart!

It's not worth it in this day and age. I am 32 with two kids. I would never have the time to spend with my kids and go to school. My husband makes the bigger bucks working at the county jail here so if he can promote over the next few years, we will be set.

you'll probably loose out. you'll increase your pay about 50%, but your cost of living will most likely quadrupole. just the change in taxes will eat up good chunk of that 12k.

cities and high growth areas are very expensive to live in. I think I remember you saying you paid 350 in rent. well, where I live 350 might get you a room in someone's house in a bad area of town. there is no such thing as a 350 apartment around here.

it's all relative. if you want to increase your real pay, you have to get a job/position that pays more. your not going to do it just moving. as pay scales go up, so does the cost of living. in most cases, it isn't equal either. most of the time your going to loose purchasing power.
