Sorry to hear about the lousy service at Hooters. So they serve over priced food, give lousy service, but hey, they got sexy waitresses. Whatever.

Well today I went and studied my camaro. I learned how to work the radio, the display information center, how to add oil and coolant, and found my battery under my spare tire in the trunk. What's up with that?Putting the battery in the trunk? Anyway, I now know how to work my camaro.
Yeah, some insurances will. You are better off laminating and keeping the receipts in a safe place, and give the insurance company copies and photos of your mods! That way they have everything right there and if the originals are needed you have them. Getting them laminated keeps the ink from fading as well.

Well, you really can't expect to much from there. I had lousy service in the past and hadn't been back in years. My first time was the first monthly meet we had there. The service depends on the waitress, cuz Sabot and his friend looked to have had a good one, ours not so much. You win some and you lose some.

YAY!!!! Good for you and glad you had the chance to get to know the car more intimately. Now to build up the education to help yourself and others!! I still need to work on that. I'm getting there. The battery placement back there, yeah, I don't know. At least you got a spare tire, my car came with an inflation kit.

Would have liked to come out to the get together but had a really busy week with barely any sleep.

Anyone coming out tonight to El Paso Motorplex? Just got done cleaning the car and will be heading out there later.

The plex was packed, all kind of cars out there. There was a yellow new Camaro but didn't get to run him. The conditions were pretty much ideal, but couldn't get the launch right. Ran another 12.9 at 110 mph. According to the dragtimes calculator that would be a 12 flat at sea level considering today's 5600 DA, not bad.

Yeah, I kinda figured that it was gonna be packed because of the cooler weather and the DA. It's definitely gonna be like that for the next 2-3weeks for sure. I'm gonna try to make it next week before it gets too cold and see what best time I can do.

Well everyone the wheels are on but with some problems. There was wheel damage on the old set and the new set. Could get them balance there so ongoing to get them balance somewhere else after they get replaced. I would like to thank Kyle for helping me out with this. It's great to see services like that, and Gracie for getting in touch with me. I owe you guys a beer. Overall the car new wheels made it look awesome.

I think they use 10W-30 oil. So I'm reading the owners manual, and it says to ONLY use 5W-30, and to NOT use 10W-30, 10W-40, etc, blah, blah, blah. It also says to only use Dexos 1 certified oil. Is this a bunch of BS? It also says failure to use the proper oil can void the warranty. So I can't get my oil changed at Mister Hotshine?:( What is this? Should I take my car back to Viva, and demand a refund over this?
I would also change the oil in the first 500-1000 miles to get any possible contaminants out like casting flash ect., just things that show up on any new motor, I would also recommend changing the rearend and tranny fluid if it's a manual aroung 1,500 miles to get any metal shavings or what not out, you would be supprised at what comes out of a new vehicle.

Royal Purple is great and I use it in my race cars, but Royal Purple's motor oil is not dexos approved therefore it stays out of the camaro, I do use their oils in the tranny and rearend though. If you don't want any reason for the dealer to try and void the warranty stick with the Mobil 1. If you want a high end motor oil, Amsoil had a dexos approved rating, but Mobil 1 is a premium oil and I don't see paying an extra $4 a quart.

It was great to meet new members that look interested in joing us for future events and as well as seeing old friends that have had other responsibilities to take care of. It was really neat to get to see Sabot and his colleague on bringing down their ZL1 and Z06 for the gathering and I hope that you guys will be able to join us again. Thank you so much to Gracie (Mysteek) and Kyle for arriving an hour early to save the parking spots for us before we arrived and thank you to: Pat, Eric, Teressa, Marty, John, Sabot, Randy, Randle, Mya, Gracie, Genny, Don, Cheyenne, Greg, Kyle, and Alex for bringing out your rides for this. It's unfortunate that the days are getting shorter with the Sun falling earlier as we are now getting bigger turnouts, but don't fret my friends, as we have plenty more function upon us in the furture such as a run to Ruidoso which seems to be a very popular choice maybe at the end of October, the 2nd Annual Car Show at Speaking Rock next weekend, and the Nikes for Kids Car Show that Don is putting together on December 15th.

Yeah the service at Hooters was a tad bit bad last night as the servers were kinda messing up the orders and were not talking to Andy about the discount that we are supposed to get. About 70% of everyone recieved the discount, but there definitely some servers that were just not cooperating. Give em the benefit of the doubt that it definitely was a packed house last night with our Camaro gathering and it being Thursday Night Football, it was just really packed in there.

Genny and I discussed about having another function similar to what Hooters has provided us this time Farley's which is across the street from Hooters. They would like us to do something similar at their location and they will block off that entire parking area right next to the patio, which will be a lot easier to manage. Now this will not replace the Hooters All-Gen Camro gathering, but will something more specifically for us. The date that we are looking at is either Friday Oct. 19th or Saturday Oct. 20th. You guys chime in a vote on which would be best for you.

Again Thank You All!!!

P.S. Shirt designs and decals coming soon.
Wow, looks like there was a great turnout. Anything on a Friday or Saturday seems to work better for us. Hopefully now that I am finished with all the work related trainings, I can take over a different position and have more time to make the events again.

Royal Purple’s API-licensed Motor Oil combines premium base oils with proprietary additive technologies to create high performance motor oils that optimize engine performance. Royal Purple’s API-licensed motor oil delivers superior protection and improves performance in gasoline and diesel engines. Royal Purple’s API-licensed SN motor oil meets ILSAC GF-5 and Dexos1™* performance requirements.

No special procedures are necessary when upgrading to Royal Purple. Royal Purple recommends waiting until the manufacturer’s first scheduled oil change in new gasoline and diesel engines before upgrading to Royal Purple.

Royal Purple motor oil is compatible with synthetic and conventional motor oils. Available viscosities include: 0W-20, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30, 10W-40, 15W-40 and 20W-50 weights. Royal Purple also offers mono-grade motor oils in SAE 30, SAE 40 and SAE 50 weights.

No doubt Royal Purple is a superior oil, but here is the direct response from Royal Purple I recieved when I was doing research on why Royal Purple was not on the GM approved list. I am not saying the RP will hurt your car in anyway and like I said I trust it in many of my other vehicles, but my goal with any new car is to keep the full manufacture's warranty until the time period expires. Hopefully this will also clarify why RP is not approved eventhough it meets the performance specs.

"The oil specified for your Camaro is a 5W-30 that has the API Starburst symbol on it. Also, the oil must meet the GM 6094M performance spec. All Royal Purple motor oils meet or exceed the performance requirements of GM4718M, and GM6094M. The GM 4718M spec is largely an oxidation testing sequence GM began using back in the mid to late 1990’s with the introduction of the C5 Corvette. The new design created some inherent issues with oil cooling. GM needed an oil which could handle higher temperatures for extended periods without a significant increase in the oxidation rate. In 360F Thin Film Oxidation Uptake (TFOUT ASTM D4742) testing, Royal Purple SAE engine oils exceed 1200 minutes before failure. Most synthetics, including GM4718M licensed Mobil 1, will typically reach failure in less than 500 minutes.

The GM 6094M specification is a low temperature cold cranking viscosity. The pumping viscosities specified by GM6094M are shown below. The Royal Purple pumping viscosities are shown for comparison. I have also attached the Royal Purple motor oil data sheet:

GM6094M:

For 0W-XX oils - 30,000 cP@ -40°C
For 5W-XX oils - 40,000 cP@ -35°C
For 10W-XX oils - 50,000 cP@ -30°C

Royal Purple:

For 0W-40 oils - 20,000 cP@ -40°C
For 5W-20 oils - 22,200 cP@ -35°C
For 5W-30 oils - 34,800 cP@ -35°C
For 5W-40 oils – 21,500 cP@ -35°C
For 10W-30 oils - 18,000 cP@ -30°C

Higher numbers indicate a thicker, or more viscous fluid. As can easily be seen, Royal Purple motor oils have much better cold flow (lower pumping viscosities) than required.

Even though Royal Purple motor oils meet or exceed the performance requirements of GM 4718M and GM6094M, we cannot list certification because the GM specs also require an API SM rating. We also can not show the API Starburst logo because we do not carry the API SM rating. We have held most of our motor oils back from API SM (most RP SAE motor oils are API SL) because of the lower amount of anti-wear additive allowed in API SM/ILSAC GF-4 oils. The reason for the restriction on anti-wear additive is that certain components of anti-wear additive were shown to cause premature degradation of catalytic converters. OEMs are now mandated by the EPA to warranty the emission system separately from the power train. Rudimentary experimentation showed certain anti-wear additives do in fact degrade catalytic converters; however, the anti-wear additive was applied directly to the core of the cats during the tests. If enough oil is consumed in the combustion chamber (i.e. through poor piston ring seal and/or leaking valve seals), there can be degradation in catalytic converter life. This is not an issue with Royal Purple motor oils used in a mechanically sound engine. The OEMs are willing to trade the longevity of the engine for a possibility of extending the life of the catalytic converters.
We do not agree with reducing anti-wear protection for the engine. For our customers who have vehicles under an OEM warranty that require API-SM rated oils, and have chosen to use Royal Purple API-SL oil, we offer a corporate warranty in the case that engine damage or failure is directly attributable to Royal Purple Oil. I have attached a copy of the warranty for your review.

In summary, Royal Purple motor oils are not currently warranty compliant for your Camaro. If strict warranty compliance is your primary concern, we may not be the best choice. However, if performance and protection are your primary concern, Royal Purple SAE 5W-30 (part #01530, quart bottle) would be an excellent choice. We also offer a retail warranty for our customers under OEM warranty, that use our SL oil instead of the recommended SM oil. Please see attached."

Thanks for choosing Royal Purple and have a great day!

Best Regards,

Christopher Barker

Viva Chevrolet has an internet special on oil changes where you have to print out the coupon, and you get an oil change for $30. I'm probably just going to get my oil changed at Viva.

I checked today with Mr. Hotshine carwash, and they want $65 to change my oil. Forget that. I'll just go with Viva.

Also, I looked all under the car for the oil filter, and I couldn't find it. The manager at Mr. Hotshine carwash showed me where it is. It's kind of weird. A lot different that what I'm use to.

I also washed my wheels. I took them to the $1.25 car wash. First sprayed them with Simple Green. Then I blasted them with high pressure soapy water. Then took wet rag and wiped them down. Then sprayed them with wheel cleaner that's safe for all wheels. Then blasted them with high pressure rinse water. Wheels came out looking like they're brand new. Brake calipers, everything. They lookin good.

I do it myself, unless I am just strapped for time. Nothing like working on your vehicle and figuring out how it works. Except there's times that it would be logical to just take it in to get looked at instead of having your Jeep out for three weeks like me, hahahahaha!
