Thanks to the bluetooth onstar box I put in my car, I have no problems not using my phone to communicate with others if I have to while driving... Yes, I think we all agree that texting while driving is bad, and is already banned in many states... But to have spotters on overpasses watching for people on their phones seems pretty dumb to me... As the article says, they could have written twice as many tickets if they had enough evidence (IE: actually saw people texting)...

I imagine it would be pretty tough to see what app a person was running, let alone seeing their thumbs move when the car is passing you at 65mph while you're standing on an overpass looking for texters...

I use my phone for the GPS/MAP/Directions function all the time when I'm going somewhere I'm not familiar with... It's no different than if I had printed out directions on Yahoo/Google maps on paper and was looking at them instead of my phone. Are they going to pull me over for looking at paper maps/directions also?

Stupid.

sure why not..

personally I don't use my phone when I am driving. I don't answer it, I don't text, I don't mess with it.

I set the music before I put the car in gear, random shuffle usually, or set the GPS, to which I don't really need, because I make sure I know where I am going before I go, the GPS is more for that last couple hundred yards or side streets in an unknown area..

Self control.. I refuse to mess with my phone or radio while driving.. my company hates it, that I dont' answer my phone all the time, but such is life..

I don't either. But your restriction based on movement would lock you out of your phone if you were a passenger, on a bus, train, or Usain Bolt

I was actually thinking of creating a texting while driving shame flyer. Snapping photos of people operating their phones while in motion and then publishing. I have several nice shots of paid civil servants. Of course texting is just one of the distractions with a smart phone, there is facebook and instagram and and and...

In the trashed white camaro thread did anyone defend the liberty of the dealership employees to cause mayhem in private?

Sorry, but I don't see where the technology you speak of is? I agree that texting while driving is bad, but that's what Siri is for.

I don't have texting on my phone. I'm surprised so many people are okay with even more surveillance. Why not just put breathalyzers on ALL cars?

i think it is just another way the gov't is trying to control the general population. i agree people should pay attention and not text, but i dont like the gov't imposing more and more on our lives. And i agree with the cops and their computers- its just as bad. when does it end with the gov't basically saying "everyone is stupid, we must protect and control all the stupid people". natural selection doesnt occur anymore and we will continue to gradually become less intelligent and unable to function.

and for example, cars today are being judged more and more for their technology. you dont have a luxury car without backup cameras, blind spot detection, parking assist, etc... People need to just learn how to drive. Period. We are allowing people to become dumb by creating these conveniences and we need more and more rules/laws because we are becoming dumb. Dont know if you understand, but in about 50 years or so, we will be using computer controlled, battery powered cars.

Reminds me of the opening of the move "Idiocracy" where all the college-educated yuppies are so busy playing with their Blackberries and killing themselves climbing the corporate ladder, that they never reproduce. Meanwhile the "Trailer Trash" have nothing else to do, and keep popping out kids. Darwin's theory in reverse...

Problem is most people are stupid.. they lack basic common sense because their parents never taught them any.

Monkey see, monkey do..

kid see the parents doing it, so they do it and so on and so forth. It will only get worse because people keep pooping out kids but they are not parents, they are simply adult children themselves with zero parenting skills.

not everyone of course, but those with basic sense and parenting skill are in the minority and so we will be extinct.

Sarcasm is lost on the internet lol. Tell yah the truth, I probably could do this while driving and never get a ticket here in NYC. Cops have more important things to do than worry about a texting while driving ticket.

Well said man. Some people just don't care if they put their life at risk or other's. I seen a college student infront of me went off the road due to texting and at the light she kept on texting.

I'm like that must've been one important text to risk it all.
