A Month ago I had no idea!!!
Went to a dealership to look for a new truck to replace my lifted Dodge Ram 1500 4x4.
Saw a used Black Camaro 2SS/RS at the dealership. Had no idea the difference between the models and trim packages. All I knew was that all 5th gen Camaros looked bad to the bone. My wife who has always disliked any performance sports car that I have ever owned. Stated "Now you may think the Challenger looks bad to the bone, but the new Camaro's look so good, they almost look angry. If I ever thought a muscle car was cool that is off the charts!" Well, that is all she had to say!!! Forget the truck I can keep it as a utility vechile for a few more years!!! Within hours I knew that I wanted a Camaro 2SS/RS package. The next couple of weeks I spent looking for a low milage 2ss, very hard to find especially with the dealerships down here thinking that they are made of gold. After a couple of deals that went south I finally started working on a deal for a new Charcoal Grey 2013 2SS A6 L99 really nice car I may add but it didn't jump out at me as say take me home. Could have been the 41k plus price tag and the feeling I was not going to get the dealership to budge much. Also I was not really crazy about the color because of all the dark and black cars that I have owned. Don't get me wrong I think black cars look awesome and almost always end buy black, but the summers down here are brutal. I left the dealership to go get dinner while they were doing up the paper work. On my way back to the dealership I passed by another Chevy Dealership and saw the only white SS that I had seen on my quest. I stopped and found out that they were asking $34k for exactly the car I wanted, plus it only had about 1668 miles on it. It was a 2011 and still smelled of new car. This price tag seemed so much more friendly than the 41k plus for the 2013. But I was bitten by the new car bug. Right away I was not crazy about the orange stripes (hell I thought they were blood red with it being night and all) The sales guy who came out was all about Camaros he asked if I wanted to test drive it. I told him in the last couple of weeks I had test driven more SSs than I care to remember. He stated "you really want to drive this one!". What I first noticed that got me spooked was the inferno orange interior (once again I thought it was red). No this was not like any of the other Camaros I had seen. Then I noticed that it was an M6. I had never even seen an M6 5th gen before, and by what I had been told by everyone, they are a pain to get a hold of. Then the love affair started as soon as I fired this bad boy up!!! It sound much louder and meaner than any of the other 2010s, 11s, 12s and 2013 autos that I had heard. The car even had that muscle car lope that I remember from years past owning a handful of challengers, SRT10 Rams, GTs and SRT8 Chargers. As I put it into gear I felt like my neck would snap. We went for a pretty tame cruise around town and as I would slow down I could hear the awesome popping and gurgling of the exhaust. I was hooked. ![]() Couple hours later I was driving out of that dealership the new owner of what I wanted and then some, only spent 33k OTD. A saving of about 10k. Turns out that I knew the son of the previous owner's neighbor. Turned out the guy had bought the car new, added some factory chevy performance mods to keep the warranty and then put the car in a garage only driving it a few miles a month. His idea was that this thing would be worth something some day. His wife found out and explained life to the guy...There are better investments than garaging a 40k+ car hoping that in 25 years it will be worth something. Guy trades it in on a new Impala or something like that. I am loving this car it is more than I was expecting by far. So much better than I remember my 1994 Z28 M6 LS1. Glad to be on this forum! And yeah that clutch is a bitch, but I have noticed my learning curve is getting better. Last edited by U118824; 10-20-2012 at 11:38 AM. |

Oh yeah the Melloy vinyl is coming off tomorrow. Just not too sure of the best way to pull it off. What we use to do is use a heat gun and you peel off and clean up the residue. That was like 15 years ago for factory letter.
