Features Direct Injection, engineered specially for reduced noise operation - including the fuel rails & pump INBOARD...under the intake manifold. Variable Valve timing, with something like 65º of phasing of a traditional cam-in-block. Active Fuel Management - applied in such a way that drastically reduced NVH, and has a wider operational range. Also, E85 capability out of the box. 83mm throttle body, and a runner-in-box intake manifold designed to resist heating. Supposedly the parts shared with the LS3 can fit into a ziplock sandwich baggie. It also weighs ~465 lbs and is 27" tall. Me likey! |

I like this part....
The Corvette LT1 represents the most significant redesign in the Small Block’s nearly 60-year history – building on its legacy to make one of the world’s best engines even better,” said Sam Winegarden, vice president, Global Powertrain Engineering. “More than just great horsepower, the LT1 has been optimized to produce a broader power band. Below 4,000 rpm, the torque of the Corvette LT1 is comparable to that of the legendary, 7.0L LS7 out of the current Corvette Z06. The LT1 is a sweetheart of a power plant and drivers will feel its tremendous torque and power at every notch on the tachometer.” |

Definitely! That sounds promising! I need to find a torque curve for this thing to stare at...with the VVT and DI, I have to imagine it's as flat as Death Valley...

Guys, I know nothing about engines, so I'm curious about this LT1. My very 1st Vette (after waiting all my life) was a 1994 w/Z07 & it was a runner. Am I wrong in remembering that it also was an LT1 with 350 horsepower? If so...why do they bring back LT1 and not make it LT6 or whatever? Or is this like the ZR1, Z06, Z07 and ZL1 and they are just honoring a great piece of history? I appreciate your patience.
Thanks, Janet |

Since this is a new generation, they've hung up the "LS" names. Reality is they could have chosen any name. The heritage of the LT1 name is there. If not the entire reason - it was undoubtedly a major one.

Janet, the "original" LT-1, circa '70, was 370 hp in the Vette and 360 hp (more restrictive exhaust) in the Z/28. 350 ci. SBC Chevrolets.
Engine designations have been repeated, before, from Gen to Gen and vehicle line to vehicle line. The LS6 designation, from the C5 Z06, was also the designation for the vaunted Big Block 454-450 hp Chevelle of '70. Apparently, the ultra-performance version coming for the Vette will be designated LT4, an alpha-numeric used in the mid-90s C4 Vette and 106 '97 Camaro SSs and 26 same-year Firehawks. History, repeating itself. |

A good friend has an LT-1 Corvette. A 1971 I believe. That engine adds about $10k to the purchase price. A lot of history for sure.

...new space age materials, new manufacturing processes, adding strength yet shedding weight, increasing HP to weight ratios at the same time adding MPG values....it's new ground that will be broken....
