I am mature enough but I logically choose not to be.

It's not about maturity. I would hope everyone here is mature enough to have a discussion about these topics. But tell me, when was the last time you've heard an argument over these topics and someone happened to say, "Oh, you are correct sir. I now gracefully change my opinion on the matter." It just doesn't happen. So what's the point in discussing it? More than likely it'll just be the same arguments back and forth. Is it really worth a pointless argument in a thread mostly about cars and car enthusiasts?

I heard the same knee-jerk reactions about gun control four years ago. I heard the same statements about stocking up on guns before they were all outlawed. I knew quite a few people that went out and spent large sums of money on guns that they thought would be banned by now. Yet, here I sit today owning two more firearms than I owned three years ago (*gasp* a democrat that owns firearms!??!). I can still go out and purchase any of the same firearms that I could have four years ago. If it's going to be a learning experience, then someone educate me on why I should want to open the Pittsburgh thread on Camaro5 to read sensationalist statements about the consequences of this election.

Because we're "friends" and this thread is like sitting at the bar?

Honestly, I may not agree with everyone, but I can fully respect one's opinion or feelings when they make a logical argument for/against whatever it is we're talking about. Perhaps I take more of a philosophical approach to communication, but I liked BumbleBee's synopsis of why he felt the way he did -- I appreciated Brendan's retort accordingly. Both were articulate and provided the facts as they perceived them. I'd also surmise it's easy for one to sort through the blah blah woof woof of ignoramous rhetoric.

But, that's just me...

On a lighter note... Can someone recommend a bakery? We're trying to get filled cupcakes made for Thanksgiving (local grocery bakeries don't do this).

Oakmont Bakery is one of the best Bakeries ever. Literally...hands...down

My dad gets his birthday cakes there every year and I sometimes head down that way just for something sweet.

I can have conversations where I disagree with the other person and yet still respect them. Chances are I will disagree with you. I'm a republican but I feel that democrats like yourself are perfectly entitled to your opinion and I'm perfectly willing to let you state your position. I enjoy getting to know people. This site has shown time and time again that pro 5th gen Camaro comments are what is expected of everyone. The Pittsburgh thread has been free of useless post deletions and banning. Its been a safe haven to come BS with some local guys on a wide range of topics. I've rather enjoyed having a couple Mustang guys in here along with V8 and V6 guys talking smack. Recent talk has also discussed Navigator vs Escalade because Tahseen felt he could come discuss it even though he didn't expect everyone to agree with him on all his points. You may have a different political view than others but you just came on here and expressed your opinion anyway. I guess with politics out then we can't discuss CAFE standards, speed limits, fuel prices, changing exhaust away from OEM, price of corn, US soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan etc etc because they are all managed by politicians What a shame because they affect all of us and hiding from them just takes away our voices.

Just as I was telling Jen, she said she just found a place in Evans City. Thanks for the info, though! I checked out their website and it looks deeeelicious!

To piggyback on what Jamie just mentioned, it's also important to consider that while someone may not reply "hey, you're right -- I agree and I'm changing my views!" that person may, at the very least, have something new resonating within their minds when they approach the same or a similar subject in the future.

I don't want to come off in the wrong way. I don't disrespect anybody's opinions. Everything that Jamie mentioned (CAFE, fuel, etc.) is at least somewhat relevant. Bumblebee's story is certainly relevant, as it's affecting his source of income. I just didn't want that to open the floodgates for other political talk. I only went down this path because these conversations typically end in stubborn, opposite sides voicing the same arguments over and over. Perhaps I jumped the gun a bit though.

I do enjoy the sometimes "off-topic" talk that goes on in here. I just don't want it to be ruined by something so polarized as politics. In my experience, it usually ends poorly. I simply want to avoid that because I do enjoy this thread.
