The problem I always have with "Cold Air Intakes" is, the factory air tube coming from the engine is plastic, which does not pick up much heat from around it. Then you put a metal Pipe in there going to a Cone Filter. The Metal tube must pick up heat from around it. Maybe you get more air through the cone, so that may help, but what about the heat soak issue??

And how much different is the temperature in the "Cone Section" than in the engine bay right outside that section?

Not all CAI's are metal tubes. I think the same way you do, cold air that is heated due to the piping kind of defeats the purpose IMO. My Airaid on my truck is plastic, and i have seen a fair share of K&N with plastic too. Companies use metal to dress them up and make them look pretty.

doesnt work for me. its kinda white trash and cheap looking. When I order my IBM w/ CGM Hood stripes, I want to add the victory red engine cover. thats the dressup that I will do.

Yes, I hear ya, I have seen that also. We did tests on a dyno with and without the CAI on the SKY redline and actually LOST HP with the CAI taking heat from the engine compartment through the metal Tube. Ram air through a plastic system kicks butt. I will wait a year to see what comes out!

I like the EL ES JUAN style coil covers on an LS3, but I'd like them more if they weren't so flamed out, and if they weren't chrome. I know those coils are rated for a pretty high temp, but trapping all that heat under those covers seems like your asking for trouble. Not a fan of the open element and the Spectre-looking tube. That engine bay is the poster child for heat soak.

The tube pictured is stainless steel. You are correct about the steel tube absorbing heat at a faster rate than a plastic tube. Roto-fab will be offering the tube in both versions. For those that like the chrome look, they will see a little less in gain compared to the plastic tube. The cross link plastic version will be a black with a fine texture finish to blend with the OEM components. In addition to the inlet elbow choice, the system will be offered with either a dry filter or an oiled filter.
The next package we are putting together won't have any chrome. The engine covers will be body color with black "rally" stripes. We've already mocked up a set with this combo and they look great!
The neat thing about this intake and the covers is there will be a finish or color available to suit most anyones tastes. Graphics and appearance can be as loud or subtle as you desire. Either way, your Camaro will have something besides the huge plastic cover completely hiding the V8 under there! BTW, we are working on dyno #s as well as pricing. The first step is to make sure all of the components are well designed and fit the car as they should!
Mike

I think it looks great too.

Plan on any offerings in true carbon-fiber?
