I sold VWs for about six months not long after 9/11. (Worst job I ever had, long story) Nobody was buying new cars at the time but the only cars we couldn't keep on the lot were the newly released beetle convertibles and anything with a TDI in it. Of course we only got an average of one or 2 TDI's a month. I can't remember exactly but I think the TDI Jettas were capable of 650 miles on a tank of fuel, averaging in the mid 40s MPG.

Side story we had a W8 Passat that sat in the showroom without moving almost the entire time I was there. The idea of buying a $45k dollar VW didn't sit right with people, not sure if it still does. One day after the weekly battery charging I got to take it for a short drive down an abandoned side road. Too tempted to keep from mashing the throttle I got up to about 90 when a deep pothole appeared. With no room to maneuver I hit it and barely felt it. That impressed me but my heart still wanted a 2002 Camaro SS. (Didn't help my sales too much when customers asked what I drove and I showed them my shiny red 92 Z28.) That W8 was shoehorned into the engine compartment. An alternator change required an engine drop.

Jan 13th 1942 - Henry Ford patented the plastic automobile, which allowed for a 30% decrease in car weight.

As far as dealerships go, there is a wide variety between them in their faith, ability, and commitment no doubt, no different than a professional sport team, people can buy into the franchise and work together, and thrive, or struggle with the lack of cohesiveness ...the TDI diesel is an impressive powerplant capable of producing alot of torque, from a small displacement, with an impressive MPG rating delivery as advertised. Sidenote, got a 2012 Chevy Cruze for my daughter, driven much on the highway and some around town useage, it only averages 29.6 or so, below what was the estimated MPG as advertised.

"What do YOU drive?", asks the customer.

"One of the benefits of being in the car biz is that I get a chance to drive EVERYTHING from time to time!", answers the career salesperson...whether as a demo, or just from the clean-up bay to the front...but, sooner or later, they DO drive just about "everything"...

Nice positive spin... surely there is NO benefit to driving some of 'em.

Is that conceiled carry or open carry? I assume since you need a permit it's conceiled.

Indeed, no reason to get funky and wagnally.

Happy New Year, BTW. We were at Crested Butte skiing for the holiday - and making snow angels after jumping out of the hot tub. Mine had horns instead of a halo.

Snow Angels and Hot Tub can only result from alcohol and fun

If I could have any car that would be the one. Z06 with Z07 pkg. awesome car and my career accomplishment to have been part of that cars engineering. GM doesn't take enough credit for the aluminum frame and carbon fiber. I tried to but it apparently wasn't appreciated by some up top.
