Discoloration at Shock Tower

I wanted to see if anyone has experienced a paint discoloration on the shock towers around the small opening. It appears as a coffee color stain covering about 4". I have tried removing it with a cleaner wax, WD 40 and Goof-off. None of these worked at all.

Any ideas on where it is coming from? This is a garage kept 2013 SW vert with 3,500 miles.

Looks like a over abundance of the die stamping release agent, obviously it wasn't caught during inspection and then cleaned properly from the area before painting. The contamination/defect is actually under the primer/paint and is leaching upwards into it..........the reality is, its fruitless to try and clean it off the top of the finish.

Looks to me like iron oxide stains. You live in an area with red dirt? If so, your never going to get it off.:(

I had it too I thought it might be coming from the shocks ???
I used a microfiber towel and some of my kitchen glass cooktop cleaner (non abrasive) liquid in small circles don't rub hard the paint is thin in that area . It took some of the stain off but you'll haft to add that to your detailing process to maintain it ..

I am in Kansas City and am pretty much a fair weather driver.
Have had it since the beginning and have searched forums in the past.
There are several others that have the issue as well.
Some have gotten the strut towers repainted by the dealers, others were informed that it is not a warranty issue.
General thought is that it is caused by the gasses in the front struts coming through the hole.

We did a meet here in Kansas City last month and it was brought up, we are meeting again this weekend. Someone there knew someone who got repainted.

You're right. It was there since day1 but I did not notice it until I made it home.

No red dirt in this area and the car has NEVER seen rain.

If it is a shock gas issue, is the shock supposed to vent gases?

About the die release agent. Has this been confirmed anywhere and does anyone have more information about this?

I have this issue. I sent pictures to the salesman that handles my companies fleet sales to kind of document it, but I probably won't follow through with having anything done about it. I might change my mind.

I've seen it discolour the outer fender, stop using it and it slowly went away !

NOT! You could clean tire black.

Does anyone know if this has happened to any color other than SW?
